Mumto2Monkeys - Have you made a job decision yet? Maybe try and decide without considering the financial element. I know the money would be nice, but as ISOM says, it shouldn't be at the expense of sanity. So, if you didn't desperately need the extra cash, would you still be interested in applying? If so, then go for it. If its just about the cash, maybe decide against it.

niccatw - sorry about the cooker. Our element went, and there was a great electricians shop (local old boy style) and they just sold us the element for £20 with detailed instructions for fitting, was easy and save the hours labour fee! If there anyone knowledgeable you could ask?

aww hugs re the element ...I remember someone smashed my sindscreen at the start of my dfw journey and it nearly finished me off...
Thanks for good wishes re work...very much out of my control so do what I can and will deal with whatever comes. Thankfully I have incredible support and regardless of outcome know that I am loved by many and money cant buy that can it eh!
Still mins here which is frustrating (but for me thats a good thing a I longto tell goldfish to bog off!!) ...going to help do a community lunch today so bangers and mash for me - free! the babysitting and they give me supper so a nsd!!

Hello! And thank you all for your suggestions. I went to a meeting yesterday with people already doing the job that I want to do. This has made me think it would be a good time to try. So, it was a good job I'd taken Happy's advice and submitted my application.

I'm really not sure how I will manage it, but I'll try. It's not just about money - my current job is really getting me down, and I would like a change.

I am a believer in fate. I'll let you know how I get on.

The electrician is currently next door... any-one know the etiquette for having tradesmaen in your house Have made him a cuppa - and told him if he didn't like it, he could make his own and pointed him in the direction of the teabags

But I kind want to go and keep an eye on things and am refraining myself! Ramblingtree - I might have got away with doing as you suggested, if my dad hadn't tried to help and pulled the handle right off the oven, making it very difficult to use safely! Luckily my folks have just had a new fitted kitchen and offered me their old oven (think dad felt guilty - they could have sold it easily). It's a double oven and doesn't fit into a normal socket and we can't find the cooker socket in my kitchen - hence the electrician!

And now my living room radiator is leaking causing the boiler to lose pressure! Argh! Does it never end? :eek:

HTGDF and SortingMyself - thank you for your comments on my SOA. Gonna call Northern Rock as soon as the electrician leaves and there's no drilling noises in the background! If that doesn't work, I'm gonna go with your suggestion HTGDF and throw as much excess as possible between credit card and loan (if I can't get another 0% credit card).

Oh, forgot to say, mum2, good luck with the application! I'm a believer in fate too! And I always remember my dad's advice when I was first going for interviews: "Have fun in the interview. Remember, you are interviewing them to see if you want to work there as much as they are interviewing you." Stood me in good stead - there's been at least two interviews where I've thought this is not for me!
