HWGA youre doing brilliantly! Well done you. Am more determined than ever to crack it. I've just had a timely reminder of the consequences of my debt and the impact that it has on others so will continued with renewed vigour! Its getting to the point that I hate it and all that it entails so wil try and channel that energy into getting it paid off rather than bimbling along...so a reminder of its impact on my life which I hope will help others;
1) takes up all my spare money
2) means despite having good salary cant go on hol
3) my mum helps me out when she should be going on lovely hols
4) I have to do loads of extra work to pay it off
5) People think less of me for it because of my stupidity in getting into so much debt
6) Its like a prison sentence and means that my life is not as free as it would be if I wasnt in debt.
7) Debtbusting is exhausting
8) I loose sleep and dream of debt related things...
9) I have to put much more time into making things which can be draining when I dont have time
10) I'd love to be able to treat people more to things but cant cos I just cant afford it
Thats it for now and I recognise that there are benefits - I've found you lot, made good friends, am more giving of time etc and have learned what is precious but still....so there ya go. Anyone want to join me with renewed vigour?Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Hi ya
I think everyone here needs a booster on here. Great list may be print in a keep it somewhere maybe near the dreaded cc or in your purse? Make you think before spending. Do you get annoyed when all a payrise and its already spent!?
I was goodish today. I didnt put grocery spluge on cc. When I do that I forget about it until the bill the next month that comes straight onto the overdraft.
I have cheated a bit and put od onto a 0 % credit card. Still want to pay it off ASAP but this should be cheaper and easier.:j0 -
Well done KP on putting OD on CC @ 0%, as you say it should be alot easier to pay off. ISOM great post & I can see your point entirely. I/we too need a kick up the aris as whilst we aren't slipping back into our old ways, we have taken our eyes off the ball a little & need to get back into the swing of things & step it up a gear. We are both doing more hours but at the same time are not doing the things that are 'painless' debtbusting i.e. not doing our regular shop at Aldi etc. I agree with every point you have made & whilst I am not doing as much overtime as I was when it was making me feel ill, I know that I am at my limit & our quality of life isn't the best it could be, with me working 6 days a week & OH working most weekends, a night out together or as a family is becoming more & more difficult. Personally I think that I'm coming to a bit of a crossroads in life & the post I read from Buffy the other day about her thinking about leaving her job really made me think. I am quite content in my job but the company are starting to chip away at everything giving us more & more work to do & morale is very low and it does make me think do I want to be working there for the next 30 years? That's if I don't get made redundant before then. Not even at the starting blocks yet but I may have something in the pipeline, but obviously need to go into it with my eyes wide open, but there is a major company where I live who have won a massive contract & a friend of my Brother's is quite high up there & he has more or less offered my Brother a job if he wants one & my Brother is going to put a word in for me. Like I say if anything does materialise I obviously can't afford to go into it without knowing all the ins & outs but from what I already know, the money is much better than where I am now. But as I said it isn't even at the starting point yet so not going to get my hopes up! I also agree about the hols. Really fancied a weekend away next month when I'm off but hand on heart, we cannot afford it with saving for wedding. The thing that hits home is we could have easily afforded it if we were DF. I have said before in my diary about friends passing away & being very ill etc. & it does put things into perspective, but at the same time I don't think most of us in debt can be 100% happy until our debts are cleared or at least well under control. I have a week off next month which will help me clear my head & hopefully get these debts shifted alot quicker. Thanks for reading & sorry about the long post! you post away...thats why the long haul is so hard because we are here for so long...I sent an email to a friend today and it just made me realise how much damage beig in debt does but the lesson is always learned too late as we've all been so happy to go with the want it, get it mentality which hasnt made us happy has it eh! Thankfully we're all in it togeather and can support each other along the rocky and long road ahead...people who dont have debt just cant comprehend how we did it can they eh, enevr mind how hard it is to realise what a pillock I've been but will take years rectifying the mistake!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Hi everyone, perhaps it is that time of year to feel like we are in the doldrums. OH now thinks that the pump is not working and that is why we have no heating. Priced up the pumps at about £38, doesnt sound much, but will probably need a plumber to install as that is not OH forte. It just seems like one insurmountable problem after another. It is my birthday on 25th and I was hoping that we would be able to have a takeaway that night, nothing special. Cant even manage that this month, what pants. At times like this i just feel like walking away! Of course wont do that but it is the relentless grind that gets me down.0

Hi ISOM, I know I shouldnt complain got a lot to be thankful for. As for OH cooking, well if I dont mind pizza and chips!! I think I will be quite happy with a big bar of galaxy chocolate, have dropped a couple of hints and OH will probably cook so I will be made of fuss of. As for a car boot, dont have anything really left to sell and what we do have i think will be better on Ebay and Amazon. thanks0

Hi everyone, not read any recent posts so will catchup after leaving this message.
Having recently started cycling to work to save a bit of money (cars give me a very wide berth, fortunately), my tv is now dying and my desktop is on the blink  . Taking the computer to the local shop tomorrow and I am praying it's something they can fix. I've put in for a tv being offered on one of my local Freecycle, but not sure I'll be successful as the message had been posted a few hours ago so it might already have gone.
Just to cheer me up even more my GP's given me 4 prescriptions for medication at £7.10 a time:eek: . Just as well I've got Guinness in the cupboard (purely medicinal, you understand) to counteract the spending shock as I wanted to visit Primark tomorrow to see what winter stuff they have in stock. Will have to put that off til I get paid at month end.The 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420
