It's good to know there are others out there that are in as much debt as me, approx £50k, i've always earnt really good money £35k/year but i lost my job in April due to cutbacks, 4 years with same employer i got 4 weeks redundancy pay !! .Anyway have a job now but only for £20k a year so my debts are starting to weigh heavy, don't sleep well, lost 2 stone in weight e.t.c, am still looking for another job at a higher salary so fingers crossed, thing is, i've never really known where my debts have come from, i think it's just been me being crap with money. Have got really high interest rates on most of them and i've been turned down for last 3 cards i applied for. Had an idiot steal/clone one of my cards and i'm trying to get £700 back off Abbey bank but they won't pay it back and i've got a cahoot account on my credit file that is not mine and i know i need to get that removed, need more hours in the day.. Do i sell my house now in this poor market and downsize or do i hang on and struggle ? Who knows i live each day as it comes, had lots of defaults come through the post of late. I find it such a relief to read all the other posts that i am not alone..
Just wanted to say thank you.#

Hey Vixi66
Welcome, when you feel up to it (and if you haven't already) why not post up your income/outgoings etc. for the good people on these boards to look at and suggest savings, switches etc. I know I felt ours was as tight as can be, but just by switching ccards, requote insurances etc. it is saved a lot each month.
Also, by doing the above you might be able to find ways to start paying things off without even having to consider selling your house.
Best of luck and keep posting.

vixi would you like a number? Re your situation would you be able to get a lodger perhaps? That way you can get more money to help pay bills etc...as others have suggested it would be good to post your soa and maybe get some help from one of the free debt agencies (cccs etc) as to the best plan of action. Are you able to increase income at all? Obviously a big leap for you between salaries....Hang in there - lots of people with lots of debt and taking control of your finances, rather than them controlling you, is the best way forward. Scary but a relief when youve done it!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0

Hi all! Well I knew that we wouldn't make much progress this month with us going on our hols but just done an update & we have added to our debts by a couple of £100:mad:  ! Think we did get a bit carried away with our spending on holiday to be honest & also been having a few too many takeaways too. That said we have saved quite a bit of cash towards the wedding too so it's not all bad. Off to do a big shop at Aldi later so that should keep us going food wise for a while! Will update sig on Sunday. All the best to everyone, get well soon ISOM!Debt at LBM(July 1st 07)-£35,053.92 Debt on 1st Anniversary of LBM(July 1st 08)-£33,170.11 (31st January 09)-£32,318.73Paid off so far £2,735.19(7.8%) Average paid off p.m. £143.95 L/H supporter 115 DFD target February 2018 DFD March 2028. Hi all
I just wanted to say thanks for all the support I've had from you guys since joining the long haulers - I don't post very often but lurk a lot, picking up tips etc.
My DFD was August 2010 due to loans ending at that time, and we have managed to save a large amount towards payment but just kept it to one side to avoid early repayment penalties.
This week I decided to telephone the loan companies to find out how much it would cost me to settle early, just out of interest. The loan paperwork suggested horrendous fees for settling early, but now I've spoken to the 3 companies I have loans with and the loan settlement figures are less than if I kept paying monthly!
So, it's with a HUGE sigh of releief that I have today paid off 2 of the 3 loans, cutting our debt down to £2473.65 from £8238.28 :T
We are saving hard now to pay off the last, whcih will be manageable by the end of October this year with extreme ebaying and budgetting.
So thanks guys, I'm sticking around till the last loan has gone, but would just say to those who like me assumed there would be early repayment fees to telephone your creditors - it's really worth it as you may get a nice surprise.

Back from hols. Mixed feelings really. Kids had fun but OH and I are shattered and I fear working out how much we overspent. New diary will be started for the run up to xmas to recoup the August overspend.
Wish I hadnt chosen the KP name now as really finding it hard to feel happy. My head says things arent that bad and there are people in far worse situations but why cant I be happy? Need to give myself a kick up the bum I guess maybe go back to docs.
Welcome to new members Amyandjon hope you are having a great time on hols. 33 degress sounds great, Dont think we got anywhere above 23!:j0 -
Hi KP, glad to see the kids enjoyed holiday. Like yourself, we too are finding it a bit of a struggle at the moment. OH earned the most she's ever earned this month, yet we have still managed to add £500 to our debts:eek: ! I think that it is so hard to keep within your budget on holiday, those pub meals, ice creams etc. all add up. We have a bit saved up which I know some of you will be screaming at us to clear our debts with, but there are things we need to buy with it & we are also saving for the wedding, so if we used this money towards clearing our debts then we would just end up 're-borrowing' it again IYKWIM. Chin up KP & don't let things get you down too much. You sound like you have a lovely family & that is far more important than any amount of debt. wow thats fab pg! Well done! Great that youre nearly there - go for it!
As for the rest of us..umm...we gotta gird our loins and just get on with it. Like others I've been lax of late and also have upped my debt amount (but havent done the sums) slightly but must now stop the slippage and get back to it. As always the gb is the main culprit and I need to be more organised about shopping/food and also need to shift some weight...will be a while before I can really get going as am still very sore. Went to get some food at local shops (10 mins walk each way) and am now in agony...suspect it will be a coupe of weeks till I go back to work as cant sit for more than 10 mins before it starts to hurt. stitches coming out on friday so hopefully that will help!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1!
