    Hi everyone, :hello:
I've been recommended to look at this thread as we have massive debts totaling over £50'000 altogether.
We basically used to spend about twice as much as we had coming in so it took only about 4/5 years of living together to rack this massive sum up.
With our current monthly repayments we're looking at a DD of 2031 . Yes I've added it right.

Could cry now I've worked that out :(

Talk about long haul my G0d.

    Hi there

Don't feel bad - our debt is well over £100k if that makes you feel any better and it didn't take us much longer than you to rack it up either! On the plus side our current DMP is due to last 7 years but (and its a HUGE "but") I've just lost my job and if I don't get another one soon which pays the same (which isn't looking likely) my DMP is going to last a LOT longer - hey ho!

Havent posted on this thread for a while, but post quite regularly on DMP Support Thread. My DMP is actually going pretty well - only a couple of months in and nearly all creditors have accepted and most have stopped or reduced interest - my worst creditor tho is Northern Rock - they are going for CCJ at moment, but even tho I have no job and huge debts, now that I am dealing with them I feel much happier than I have for a long time, so chin up! :D

Thanks for those comments you two, made me feel better :o

Finally taking a little step towards getting ourselves a tiny bit straight.
Basically, I suppose I should explain, our main jobs are quite well paid, and they plus the child benefit just about cover the outgoings from the bank. So, we have both taken on a second job which we use to live off and for any extras we might want. I have recently started working at a little cafe every Saturday as well, which I have saved from the start (in order to not get used to the extra income :o ). I am wanting to save this away to help pay for next years ground rent as I always leave it too late and this year would like to be organized.
Thing is a the minute, it feels as though we are just working all the time and we never have any spare money to do anything "nice". I know, we have a nice house and a car and caravan and our children are always fed and dressed and happy most importantly, but I do wish that we could do more as a family.
We have paid £1050 for the ground rent for our caravan this year, but have only used it twice and we're half way through the season already. We can't use it regularly as DH's second job includes Sat nights and Sunday dinners so we have paid loads for it and can hardly use it all year. My aim this year is to reduce out goings enough in the bank to make it possible for DH to leave his 2nd job next year when the caravan opens back up in April. Then we can actually enjoy some family time every weekend at our little caravan like we'd like to (and pay for). I hope this is realistic enough to aim for. It would mean a monthly reduction of £180-£200 in the bank.

thank again for your support now, i do appreciate it and now I've given a bit of background info I will probably be on here quite often :D

Hi again! About the caravan, just a thought & I know that it may be a wrench to do, but a friend of mine had a caravan & ended up selling it,as he couldn't take his family as often as he'd like to. He now goes on the Sun £9.50 hols 3 or 4 times a year. I have been a few times myself to different places & I have to say that they are worth every penny. Don't want to encourage you to sell caravan if you don't want to, but it may be worth looking at other options until you start to find your feet again. All the best!

  • I am glad you joined us Noggin. Really nice thread with alot of similarities and posters can understand how the long slog can be daunting at times.

By the way agreed a (blooming low) price on the car but then they backed out. Have lowered price on ebay and Autotrader so which me luck. The last two months havent been very good money saving wise so hoping July will improve. I am hoping to be able to announce a sale soon with a bit chunk paid of the loan.

    noggin (121)

Welcome noggin & thanks for the background! As suggested it may be worth thinking of selling the caravan - once you look at petrol to & from, ground rent, upkeep etc they work out pretty expensive when you compare it to a cheapie B&B away somewhere or haven hols etc which you ca save tesco vouchers for...just a thought as it may take the pressure off?

Its been an expensive month fr me as needed new clothes and car in for MOT on Friday so I uspect I may have stood still IYKWIM! SOme months are like that and thats the cost of paying loads off and not saving for things like MOT but my logic is that I save interest in the long run...also makes me panic a bit & belt tighten more IYKWIM! Plus had quite a bit of allotment shopping last week so time to reign in again! Should be okish for food for a bit though which helps! Really enjoying making bread from scratch and sold my BM cos it was huge & I didnt use it! A great anger managemnet tool kneading bread! Hope the cars sell soon dubgirl & wendy as know it will take the pressure off...

Hi all. Well as I have posted on keren's goodbye thread, I won't be on here as often as usual. I do enjoy posting & reading other people's threads/posts, but sometimes do get too wrapped up in the whole DFW thing! That said I am bored stiff today as OH was on nights so she is asleep & DD is hanging out with mates, so will have a read & catch up on things for half an hour! Was going to go for a pint with my Dad for Father's Day, but giving OH a lift to work later. She said she doesn't mind walking but the area around the hospital she works at is a little dodgy to be honest + she's doing a 12 hour nghtshift,so I would rather give her a lift. Have to get some quotes for some damage done to the rear bumper of car where some bar steward who had parked behind me near work has managed to hit my car:mad: ! I think I know which car has done it as the next day there was a car parked there with a scrape on their front bumper but I can't prove it. It really did get me down when I discovered the damage but as we all know !!!!!! happens every now & then:rolleyes: ! Took car to garage of my Uncle's mate & he is going to let me know how much it will cost tomorrow. I guess I'm looking at around a ton so that's all last weeks overtime wiped out! Hope everyone else is well!!

Sorry to hear about your car.

It's my pet hate, some people don't have any respect for other peoples property anymore. My car was parked outside my house once, I walked to the shops and came back to find the front wing and door all smashed in  No note, no witnesses. Fortunately It was being traded in on a minimum part exchange scheme so I still got £500 for it, but it was so annoying.

My current car has a deep scratch where someone ran a shopping trolley into it. Someone saw them, but they were long gone by the time I got back to the car.
