Oh so sorry to hear this xxx6

Thanks folks. Sadly it comes with the territory of elderly ex-commercial chickens. We'd likely not have noticed if we didn't spend so much time with them, they're very good at hiding illness.
Hey ho, we'll do what we can, and try to hone our medication giving technique on the way 🙄
Anyway, we're home now, and it's a beautiful evening. I've changed into gardening clothes and am going to do a bit of scything while the chickens are in their extension 😁 It's not predator-proof enough to leave them in unsupervised, but it's now got walls and a door so they can stay in at the end of the day when they're getting ready for bed and we're still outside.
Farmer has just turned up to check on the cows and is talking to Mr Cheery. I'm hiding - I was talking to him for 2.5 hours the other day and I'm not in the mood for that right now! 😮
Trying to create a bit of a plan for the rest of my time off. Keep trying to arrange visitors but so far have only managed one lit, and the rest want to come in August. Fine, but I can't be held responsible for the weather that far away!
Think I need to focus on getting some of the outside jobs ticked off (strimming/scything, finishing chicken extension) and sorting the house out (general tidying, kitchen ceiling).
Also got a couple of nice things planned. Some neighbours are having a bit of a do tomorrow. Off on a day trip on Tuesday to take part in some research with a friend that involves having our brains scanned (and then us getting the scans printed onto a mug, which is basically the main reason why we're doing it 😁). Vets again Thursday 🙄 Visitors Friday, and some local open gardens over the weekend.
Maybe a couple of bike rides, definitely a few cafe trips, few more gym classes booked in.
Right, scything - not sure I can stand the noise of the strimmer after hours in the car and there are plenty of bits to do with each.7 -
Aww, Cheery sorry to hear about your little hen. Fingers and toes crossed for her that the antibiotics do the trick.
Well done with all the work you have both done on your chicken extension. looks brilliant and absolutely perfect for them.

Cheery, I'm sorry that Rusty isn't well (and completely agree that acting as if nothing is wrong is absolutely normal when at the V E Ts!). I hope that she proves easier to medicate than you fear.
Also hope that you are able to do some nice things while you are off work, not just deal with the chores. It's not difficult!
'Wander' - to walk or move in a leisurely manner.
'Wonder' - to feel curious.5 -
Thanks lovely folks xxx
I actually did switch the strimmer on in the end for about 45 mins, enough to do the lawn by the house, and the other lawn by the washing line, which was a straggly jungle of a mess, and is now, well it probably still looks straggly to anyone with an actual lawn 😂 but it made me feel much better! One step closer to reclaiming that bit of the garden from the chicken extension project and from the old shelter from last year (which is basically now a pile of stuff mostly for the tip).
Then we had a call - our pals are coming out tomorrow to put the roof on the chicken extension! Hooray indeed. So a last minute trip to the DOY shop for supplies, and the supermarket for provisions. Busy day ahead tomorrow!10 -
Gosh, it's warm already! 😮
I have pegged out the washing, let the chickens out, and made £10 spinning the happy wheel, so all good.
Visitors are due in an hour, so I'm going to turn into a human whirlwind and do a Flylady Crisis clean in a bid to at least feel mildly in control (although it's very likely they won't be coming into the house anyway, so...)
Right, ready, steady, GO!8 -
Well, what an utterly lovely day! So, so warm 😮 so glad we impulse bought a bag of ice last night, kept us going today. Visitors helped us get the rafters on the chi ken extension, so exciting! We couldn't get the right fixings so the actual roof panels aren't on, but we are SO close now!
Then we popped down the hill to see some relatively new neighbours who were having a party - what a lovely evening! They have a similar view to us but much lower down, so it felt quite different. Done loads of interesting things to their house too and gave us a tour 😁 and they had some nice chums!
We left about 11.40 and were home in 10 minutes, can't tell you how exciting it was to be able to walk home slightly tipsy from somewhere, not done that since we moved 😂😂 wish it wasn't vertically uphill through a field of slightly skittish sheep though 😂😂
Reckon I'll sleep well tonight 😮😂12 -
Well, I slept quite well til about 6, when Mr Cheery was complaining about my breathing 🙄 and the sun was coming in through the curtains right into my face, so I got up, opened the door to the hen house for the slightly bemused chickens (they don't usually get let out til about 8) and then fell asleep on the sofa 😂
Had a call from friends heading out for an impromptu visit at 1 (clearly their timekeeping isn't impeccable...). They've not been here before, and we've not seen them for ages, so it will be lovely to see them. I've had to make an experimental cake as we'd run out of butter/marg - hope it works out... 😂 also hoping they've already had lunch else they'll be getting egg butties 😂7 -
Visitors just rang to say they're not coming after all - over an hour after they were meant to be here 🙄 ot seems they hired some kind of fancy car which they have to have back for 4pm, and have been driving around so much they now don't have time to visit us 🙄
Bit annoying when we cancelled our trip to Screwfix, spent quite a bit of time sorting out house and garden, making a cake, and generally not starting anything because we thought we'd have to imminently stop it.
Anyway, blah blah. Apparently they're going to take a day off and come out on Wednesday - I'll believe it when I see it 🙄7 -
