Yay, a winter kitchen! And a good few errands done on the same trip, thats always a good thing. I'll have to look at superdrug, never shopped there online, and only rarely in RL.2023: the year I get to buy a car7

Fingers crossed! Builder is coming to look at whether we can move the sink on Monday afternoon, which is great.
Work is like pulling teeth today 🙄 My fault - I have plenty to do, but am trying to ignore small fiddly tasks until tomorrow (when my day is quite bitty anyway) and instead concentrate on adding just TWO PARAGRAPHS to a journal article that I want to submit this week. Two paragraphs! I have spent the whole day writing and rewriting, going round in circles, and finding every opportunity to either pick up my phone or leave my desk.
So cross with myself! 😡
Going to put phone in a different room, set the timer, the spend ONE HOUR and get the damn thing done. I will be SO cross if I don't submit this before I go off on holiday, and someone else needs to look at it before it goes. Gah!12 -
August will be good for the kitchen, CD. We did ours in October - yes we were out of the house, but full on teaching and coming home to microwave meals and washing up in the bathroom for the best part of the month was not fun!Get the article submitted, you will probably get revisions anyway, and if you don't those paras were just your inner critic - Do you know Tara Brabazon's 12 Rules for Academic Life? Ha, will investigate Chigle!
Paragraphs got done, and I've sent it back to co-author (who will just say it's fine). I'll submit today if I get chance, tomorrow at the latest 😁
And yes, I really do want it done before I start teaching again! 😮 Although we are of course already set up with our temporary kitchen anyway 🙄 My main concern is trying to work at home while they're here -I do have a separate room, but it's on the side of the house that's being worked on, so I'll likely have to set up a temporary desk in the temporary kitchen 😂 Mind you, my actual real life office is apparently open now so theoretically I could go there - if I can remember where it is...
Anyway, potential excitement here. Remember we tried to buy a second hand kitchen last week from Gumtree, got a quote for shifting it, then they pulled out as their kitchen fitter had cancelled? She withdrew the advert, but when our builder said he'd be another 5 or 6 weeks, we contacted her again on the off chance hers would be out by then...
She replied late last night - hers is out now, but two of the bits of granite got cracked, and the fridge and stove which they'd put by the garage for her husband to put in were taken by the scrap man 😂
BUT she still has the units, which is the main thing we wanted anyway (we assumed we'd have to replace the worktops, and are fine with replacing fridge and cooker). And she only wants £250 for them. I'm trying to get her to ring me today to confirm all the cupboards (and the curved doors) are fine, then I'll get a renewed quote for removals (hopefully slightly less with only one small piece of granite and no appliances) and then MAYBE it will be with us this week!
Of course we then have to store it for a few weeks... (which means clearing out the garage), and source granite and appliances, but it should still save us a few grand.
We're off to visit the builder's geezers workshop this afternoon - will fess up about the second hand one (not cancelling in case the other one falls through again).
So fingers crossed.... and also fingers crossed as I have a funding bid in at work which people are making a decision on TODAY - I won't hear today but a few good vibes wafting in the committee's direction won't go amiss!
Right, best get on.13 -

Great news about potential kitchen. Thanks for reminder about YNAB. I used it when you could make a one off payment but it long since became obsolete on the devices we used as it wasn’t supported. Loath to do monthly payments we found several spreadsheet type budgets but none were ideal. Having read your “ramblings” we have bitten the bullet and signed up to 30 day trial of YNAB and my it’s so much better. We will definitely be subscribing. Lesson learned8

Brain is Birling a little bit teapot 🤯😂😂
TDQ, glad you're enjoying YNAB! Yes, it does feel counterintuitive to pay, and I can absolutely see why people don't. I do like it though. I got an offer years ago, and pay about £36 annually i think - i have a line in the budget where I allocate £3 a month 😂
Just had a chunk of work dumped on my plate for today that I could well do without but in the circumstances it's easier to just do it than try to find the person really responsible 🙄 NOT something I want to make a habit of but needs must on this occasion and it should only take an hour or so... 🙄10 -
Extra work done, and we have been on an exciting visit to a local kitchen making workshop 😁 most jolly - the blokes were lovely, and their kitchens were very nice... even Mr Cheery is now edging towards having a handmade oak one... 😮😁 the blokes are coming round with the builder on Monday so we'll see what happens...11
