I only work super part time and I'm often still at work (and not wfh) by 8/ 8.15, but that's OK as it's only a 15 min drive. When DD was baby I used to commute about 35 miles, drop her off at nursery for 7am and then go to work - literally over the road from the nursery so I'd be at my desk with cuppa by 7.10. And then leave by 5.55 to collect her for 6pm (when nursery shut) - thankfully those days of madness (what was I thinking?!?!) are long gone - I have no idea how I coped! I do remember both of us crying noisily whilst driving back up the motorway to home some nights... (she had an excuse - she was probably only around 8 or 9 months old) I worked in a very male type environment and was determined to show that having a baby did not mean that I could not do my job with the rest of them... I now roll my eyes at my younger self!!
DH has colleagues in America and Australia, which makes for some very early morning and late night meetings - I'm usually in bed for both times slots!

I regularly used to get to work at 7am (leaving at 6) to beat the traffic 🙄 Going to be a nasty shock when I have to start doing that again! 😮
Rang up about another car this evening. Getting VERY p*ssed off with people who are supposedly 'private' sellers who blatantly aren't. I'm sure they're the first to complain about 'timewasters' as well 🙄 Anyway, this one was pretty easy to rat out. My usual first question is 'is your car still available?' which gets most of them (they say 'which one?'...)
This one clearly only had one, but I asked how long he'd had it, and he said 'not long, I just buy them and sell them on'.
If we were for looking for a dealer we'd go to one doing the appropriate paperwork.
Anyway, found some others to ring tomorrow, and a friend just happens to be selling one that would probably do - although sadly someone else is going to look at it tomorrow.
One of the things that was worrying me was that I think there's something wrong with current car, but was thinking I couldn't take it to the garage without having a new one. However, I'm going to ring tomorrow (or Monday) and see if they do a courtesy car (probably not but worth asking), and if necessary I can just walk home after dropping it off.
Still want to get a new one, preferably this weekend though!7 -
We have a semi-secret society of early birds at work! Generally, there is a gentleperson's agreement about not emailing or Teams messaging outside 'office hours' within the Faculty, but there is a small group who know the others are early birds and will be getting stuff done and are happy to be contacted - we even had a student join this year
She got much better tutorials at 8am than the ones who ask for 5, 6, or even 7pm
Poor Beaky, CD. As greentsaid, she's had a better life with you.2014 starting mortgage £165,0002015 second charge £20,000 - Jan 2021 paid off in fullCurrent outstanding balance - £115,8567 -
Sorry to hear about Beaky. I’m sure she appreciates the time she’s had with you though.
I’m definitely a lark rather than an owl - much easier to be at my desk at 7.30/8 than 5 or even 4pm! Fortunately my clients are either in Europe where it’s not so early or in America where they’re asleep regardless until my afternoon.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

I'd like to be a genuine early bird, but Mr Cheery is most definitely a night owl, and I often end up staying up later than I'd planned and not able to get up super early 🙄 I could definitely get up earlier than I do at the minute though - it was 8.15 this morning. Without the chickens I would definitely have stayed in bed later!
Starting to feel a bit overwhelmed again, and to make me feel like I'm making some progress I'm going to try to keep track of little things I'm doing that are moving us forwards, ticking things off. So far this morning
* paid for windows
* took a pile of clothes upstairs - they've been sat downstairs for weeks 🙄
* wrapped a present for a friend (but then couldn't find her address so can't post it, but still - progress!)
Currently in the cafe, and they had a big takeaway order before us so our breakfast is taking a while- I'm peckish but it does mean I feel no guilt whatsoever luxuriating in this comfy chair while I do some plotting and scheming 😊6
