More bizarreness - we contacted someone about a car on Gumtree the other day, for sale for £1350. She didn't reply, and the next day she reduced it to £1200. Today she's reduced it to £1100 so we've sent her another message - maybe we should have waited another few days and it might have been free?!
I can only assume Gumtree messages aren't getting through, but as she's not included any other contact details there's not much we can do. She's probably cursing the world for not wanting to buy her car 🙄😂6 -

Hb, I remember when your kitchen units fell off the wall 😮 A miracle nobody was hurt! 😮 Fortunately we're not having wall units so I'm hopeful the same won't happen!
Bit of an up and down day here today. Had to recommend a student for academic misconduct which was disappointing and also required a load of tedious paperwork 🙄 But then I marked an exceptional piece of work, and had a reference request for a student who has been offered a really lovely job that they'll be great at 😁 Also Mr Cheery set me up a desk in the garden so I'm going to be working outside for the rest of the summer now 😁We bought our granite direct too, on the recomendation of the Howdens Kitchen planner! The prices were on a par with other types of less durable work top, and considerably cheaper than the 'trendy' 'novel materials'. We went for a very dark one, and occasionally DH says he wishes he'd gone for something a bit more "WOW", but we have a two-tone kitchen, so I think he's wrongAcc Misc is an absolute pain and although some students think staff are just being mean, they don't realise how emotional it can be for us. I do a Wellbeing role for the Faculty so I get to soothe the fevered brows - DH is a Faculty Acc Misc conduct officer - you think our paper work is awful, you should see his!!Anyway, sorry to everyone else for the academic in-talk, but it pays the bills2014 starting mortgage £165,0002015 second charge £20,000 - Jan 2021 paid off in fullCurrent outstanding balance - £115,8566 -
Oh crikey Cheery, what a day you had! I don’t know about with you, but the weather has broken here now - so hopefully the crazy will calm down a bit now (hope you’ve got a rain shelter over your outside desk though!)Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Yes, the weather has broken a bit today Vix, thank goodness! And fortunately I have a giant umbrella thing over my desk, although if it's raining I'll be in the house!
Chigle, yes indeed to fevered brows 🙄 In the first year we try to give them the benefit of the doubt and they're usually brought in for an in-dept chat about 'study skills' and the shock usually does it - I remember one woman brought her mum and they were both mortified - she learned her lesson and went on to be a great student.
Sadly this is way beyond that 🙄

Just dropped one of my bikes off for a service - I enjoyed regular cycling before work last year, and have been putting it off this year as both bikes are in a bit of a state. I planned to get the big one done first, but then the Brompton started having issues, and that's actually the one I use most often on the trails as it's easier to get in the car - especially now we don't have the Kangoo any more. So the Brompton has gone in, and I'll book the big one in when I pick it up.
Won't be cheap, but hopefully it'll be worth it to get me a decent bit of exercise!8 -
Good grief! My jaw dropped when I read about seeing the car roll and then the swarm in the kitchen, how horrendous! Lots of other stuff going on too, dear me! Bit of a lively week!2023: the year I get to buy a car8
-
Lively is certainly the word! 😮 We drove past the car this morning - the guy who was driving it was out there mending the dry stone wall, looking a bit sheepish 🙄😂 At least he's ok though, even if the car and the wall aren't!8
-
So. Some good financial news and some less good.
The good - bike is ready and only cost £62. Yay!
The less good - we have another possibly poorly chicken... Waited for a return call from the vet to discuss, but when she hadn't rung ten mins before closing we decided to book her in tomorrow anyway, so that's another 3 hour (or more) round trip and another few quid 🙄 Not sure what's wrong with this one - doesn't seem the same as the others so hopefully no hormonal implant this time, but hopefully it's something treatable. They're ex commercial hens though and almost 4 years old, which is pretty good going and longer than we had any of the others...
Sigh.5 -
Cheery, it does sound as if life is conspiring against you at the moment! I hope your poorly hen isn't going to be expensive.
I was wondering whether you still have your Brompton. I'm no longer able to cycle but Mr hb tries to get out on his bike when he can. He is now, just about, managing to get up our hill, so is obviously getting a bit fitter.
It's still been pretty warm here today, and humid, but temps due to drop to 18C tomorrow. It's not difficult!
'Wander' - to walk or move in a leisurely manner.
'Wonder' - to feel curious.6 -
Thanks hb, I do indeed still have my Brompton, I think it's 20 years old this year! It's been really useful in some circumstances - I used to commute to a different city on the train and used it all the time then, it was perfect. Now I ride it on the flat cycle trails - it's easy to shove in the car for a quick morning ride. I will fix the big bike though - the Brompton is no good for the roads round here (it's only got 3 gears, and although they're well spaced out and fine in the city, I wouldn't fancy my chances round here). And the big one is just better for longer trips - I want to start going a bit further over the summer and while 10 miles is OK on the Brompton, anything longer is better on a 'normal' bike I think.
Came to bed at 9.30 last night, I was exhausted! Read for a bit but was asleep by about 10.15. Feel much better but I do need to get up now - got a meeting at 8am 😮6
