Cheery's country living adventure

Thanks KC - my IT workaround from yesterday unearthed a different problem which required a new workaround today - but I THINK that's now sorted, so I'll be able to check if yesterday's problem is fixed when I log back in tomorrow
I was trying to save them some money by not demanding a new laptop but at some point I do actually need to do the job I'm paid for rather than just hanging out with the IT people, lovely as they are!
Cheerful enough day today thoughMisty this morning, but the sun broke through, and I remembered to put the washing on (although we didn't bring it in before it started drizzling a bit this evening so it's not *quite* dry).
I forgot to ring the mortgage people again, but I DID ring the garage... They have done the MOT and fixed the windscreen wipers (which wouldn't squirt water) - but they can't figure out the problem with the engineThey've suggested we take it to a specialist electrical garage, which is about 2 miles from them, and 35 miles from us. I've been trying to field phone calls today in an attempt to bribe the lovely young man at the garage to drive it to the other garage for me, rather than both me and Mr Cheery having to drive into town just to collect the car and drive it 2 miles up the road
Still, MOT and associated fettling only cost £160 which isn't too bad. Of course we've now got to see what the other garage does and charges...
What else? Nothing I don't think. Our next swabs (for the COVID study) are tomorrow, and it's a different person coming over this time (did we scare the last woman off??) so hopefully he won't get lost too...
So. Some things to do tomorrow (in between arguing with my laptop of course)
* collect prescription (not urgent though, I've got enough to last to the weekend for once)
* post two parcels to friends
* ring mortgage
* ring garage to pay for MOT and bribe to take to other garage
That'll do I think. More hay hauling of course. Oh, I cut the grass behind the house today - it was shockingly long (like almost waist height, worse than the actual meadow, and all flattened and twisted into strange shapes by the wind, so it took forever). Still, it's done now - I can get back to cutting the actual meadow now!

How did you get on with bribing the garage to take the car? And if it did get to the other garage, have they made any progress?

Ha, I've had such a stupid day with work that I completely forgot about both the garage and the mortgage! And I went to collect my prescription but it wasn't there yet. And I didn't post my parcels either, oh dear!!
Covid guy did indeed find us so second lot of swabs done. No sign of vouchers yet mind you!8 -

Indeed! I assume they'll let me know if I've actually got it
Minor success - I realised the building society shuts at 6, not 5, so got on the phone with six minutes to sparelovely lady was all very efficient and I was back off again at the stroke of 6pm
Increased monthly payment to £1300
meaning we're overpaying £380.01 a month

Thanks ladies! I'm pretty chuffed I must say, and feeling very fortunate to be in this position. We were planning to put some of Mr Cheery's pension lump sum towards it but with all the uncertainty decided to keep that available just in case. But that does mean that we don't really need to be adding the monthly pension amount to savings for the time being, so I'm trying to shove more and more of it to the mortgage (without leaving us too short, and acknowledging that we also have DIY etc to pay for).
Anyway, today. I ordered a set of adjustable dumbbells which have been delivered this morning - there was a RIP in the box though and it seems one of the nuts has come out in the delivery van. Most vexing, as I imagine the seller won't sort it because they'll blame the delivery people, and the delivery people won't sort it because they'll blame me for not checking. Sigh, another thing on the list to sort out.
Speaking of which, the garage wouldn't take payment the other day because they were busy, but then didn't ring back. I rang again this morning but they were busy again... I'd happily just not pay! But I also want them to take my car to the other garage today or tomorrow - or if they're not going to, I need to know do I can do it myself. Beginning to wish I'd just done it myself in the first placeanyway, they've said to ring back at 1, and if I get some vague answer about taking it to the other garage I'll just tell them to stuff it and I'll do it myself. I was just trying to avoid a 60 mile round trip to take a car 10 minutes from one garage to the other!
Also had a phone call about a new work laptop - need to ring to arrange collecting that. Obviously it would make sense to do that at the same time as car shenanigans but my little brain is about to explode with the logistics of that and work etc too. YAWN.
I think I need a PA.12 -
It does all sound rather complicated at the moment Cheery, not at all helped by the awkward garage. I hope you get the car, at least, sorted today.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Ditto, as madvix - combining is the mse way to go, but sometimes it just can't be done. Best of luck
