Ooh, double chocolate button rations would be excellent! Or perhaps not - I'm not remotely happy with either my health or levels of podginess at the minute 🙄 Feeling quite unfit, huffing and puffing during normal daily tasks and I do NOT like it. Just found a box of old clothes in the bedroom and a dress I thought I'd chucked which I loved but couldn't find - I did try it on but I will NOT be wearing it any time soon. It's knitted and stretchy and is NOT a good look 😮
So I think I need a health and fitness project... hmm...10 -

Well, sadly things aren't looking great for poor old Maud
I've spoken to the vets - the antibiotics and steroids they gave her on Monday didn't have much of an effect, and there's nothing else they can do, it seems her liver is too damaged
For now she's still inside with us, mostly dozing with her head under her wing. When she wakes we wave tempting treats under her beak, but mostly she ignores them. She's not long for this world, and we are sad.
This vet seemed to think her and Mildred's illnesses aren't necessarily related (so we don't have to worry about the others getting ill too). Mildred it seems had heart trouble (or possibly some kind of respiratory illness), Maud's issue is with her liver. It might just be a coincidence - they're both knocking on a bit for ex-commercial hens after all - or Maud might have had some underlying illness that has been exacerbated since she stopped eating after Mildred died. We'll never properly know. Tis all very sad.
Anyway, on a lighter note, our dehydrator was delivered this morning, and we have put it to work already dealing with the mushroom mountain we've amassed over the last few weeks as Mr Cheery has overestimated our rate of mushroom consumption. It's whirring away now, and hopefully in a few hours we'll have several jars of dried mushrooms for adding to soups and risottos throughout the coming months. What fun!
The rest of my fencing equipment arrived yesterday, but my seedlings have barely poked their heads up and won't be outside for at least a few weeks so there's no immediate rush. The current priority is the dry stone wall of course, so I've been out there again this morning for a couple of hours, and once I've eaten lunch I'll get back out there again. Unexciting frozen pizza for lunch - the freezer badly needs defrosting so we're trying to eat our way through it (not difficult - it's not that big, and mostly stuffed with pizza and frozen veg...)8 -
Sorry to hear that about Maud, Cheery, but I’m sure she appreciates your care and attention.
The dehydrator sounds like fun, although mushrooms wouldn’t be my choice!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Mushrooms wouldn't really have been my choice either, but we had loads of the damn things! 😂 utility room smells rather mushroomy now...😂8

What are you doing with all the potatoes?
I do eat carrots and potatoes, just not this many, 😁, and I’m all souped out, with no room in the freezer!
I was very low on onions, down to my last two, and they were one of the few extras you could order, so I did, and got a bag full, and then I got some more onions in the veg box! 😁
Maybe it will have to be carrot, onion and potato soup!(I just lurve spiders!)
