Cheery_Daff said:I do think part of it is good fortune though - I'm always quite wary of the 'you worked really hard' argument, because there are SO many people who work really bloody hard and will never get near what we have (although I agree those aren't usually the people telling us how lucky we are!)
.....
I'd hate for someone in different circumstances to read this and think 'but I work really hard too, and I'm never going to get there'.
So yes, some good management, but also a decent dollop of good fortune and privilege too which I like to keep in mind (but you're right I do rather downplay our own contribution sometimes).

Couldn’t agree more that it’s definitely a combination of good fortune and hard work. We’re all lucky just to have been born in a first-world country, let alone any of the other variants that help us to put ourselves in the positions that we’re in. The ability to create spare income and be able to prioritise where is goes is a huge privilege. It’s the prioritising that we should be proud of - that’s where the hard work is often - in making the harder choice to economise when others around us are being more profligate.
You still deserve the recognition though Cheery - you’ve made your current happiness happen (bearing in mind the old house with the noisy neighbours!).Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Ooh, I like that Vix. I take back what I said before Cheery, it's not about hard work - it's about hard choices and having the ability to make themMortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

I think it’s probably a bit of both - you can’t sit around on your backside and rake in the money (well most of us can’t anyway!)! 😁Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days
