Cheery's country living adventure

We lay on the lawn for a while with the chickens pottering in the dust bath and pondered how lucky we were, how very glad we were that we were able to move out here when we did, how fortunate to be shut in out here and not in our old house with barely any garden and noisy neighbours 😮 Feeling so very fortunate, it's completely idyllic out here today, exactly all the good bits you imagine about moving out to the countryside, with none of the commute, muck spreading, being snowed in or whatever else comes with it 😂 Just sunshine and birdsong and the last of the daffodils and some slow bumbling bees ♥️♥️♥️
Actually, if you could bottle lots of it, you could sell it to people in flats!
You could call it “Cheery’s Country Cheer”!
Or the Bottle of Balm. 😃😃(I just lurve spiders!)

That wall's going to keep you busy for a while, but worth it for the view!
I've been enjoying where I live and making the most of the lack of travel. Next move needs to be properly rural as I'm really appreciating the lack of traffic at the moment (the fact that I've nearly finished the house suggests that the next move won't be far off anyway... ). The birds are REALLY noisy at the moment

Wonderful view and wonderful thoughts about where you live Cheery, so uplifting. When we were on our illicit (5-min-out-of-the-way) drive the other day we pulled over and sat and listened to the countryside - bird song, wildlife, rain on leaves, but no road noise or plane noise. It made me think that it must have been like this 100 years ago - much quieter, even in out of the way places.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Amazing view Cheery. I'm so glad we moved when we did too.

I get frustrated when people tell me we are lucky to have a lovely house, good sized garden, one parent at home full time etc what they fail to notice is the full time plus we both worked for many years, the planning we have done, buying a house that needed lots of work doing, buying in a less than desirable neighbourhood, not having many of the things they take for granted like new cars, fitted kitchens, holidays abroad, eating out regularly. We have made different lifestyle choices to many people and we are happy with where we are.
I do know some people's lives are not as blessed us ours despite everything they do, life and other people scupper their efforts but these are not the people who moan or call us lucky.
Make the most of where you live, even if it is just a cuppa and enjoying the view.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Thank you all ♥️ I get frustrated by that too BB, especially people at work referring to my 'mansion'(!) or 'country estate' - and ignoring the lack of holidays, shopping in @ldi, not spending weekends in the pub and only buying second hand clothes. So yes, there is a good degree of good management in there.
I do think part of it is good fortune though - I'm always quite wary of the 'you worked really hard' argument, because there are SO many people who work really bloody hard and will never get near what we have (although I agree those aren't usually the people telling us how lucky we are!)
I think yes, I should recognize the role we've played ourselves in all this, but also we had loving families, a decent education, enough food & space to do our homework as kids, no traumatic experiences, no parents arrested or addicted, no foster homes, or whatever, higher education, and stable enough families to let us get this far too. So many people are fighting against all that, that I just don't ever feel I can say 'this is all down to us'. We couldn't have done it without our age difference either (or maybe we could have done something with two full time incomes at once, but it probably wouldn't have looked quite like this with both of us commuting).
I'd hate for someone in different circumstances to read this and think 'but I work really hard too, and I'm never going to get there'.
So yes, some good management, but also a decent dollop of good fortune and privilege too which I like to keep in mind (but you're right I do rather downplay our own contribution sometimes).13 -
I agree @Cheery_Daff we have had a more privileged start than some growing up for the most part, food on the table, stable home environment etc but it wasn't all rosy.

We have the same with the "Country Estate" comments and "Lord and Lady Fortune". I come from a disadvantaged background, Mr F had a more privileged upbringing and we have both worked hard and made sacrifices to get here. One of which was moving 241 miles north to afford the lifestyle we hoped for! There have been lucky breaks - jobs coming up at the right time, etc. However, a lot of what we have achieved is down to making good decisions and mitigating risk. Overpaying the mortgage for example rather than taking expensive holidays or buying the latest 'phone. You pays your money and you takes your choice. Not nice to be judged by anyone who doesn't know your story.
