Fiddly morning - its always that way when I'm doing accounts, e.g. I put a tenner or so with egg for some freebie or other, but now the *** account has to be declared, so I need to get lots of info.... hi ho.

Freebie £1 and 70p today in winnings on the scratchcards! But Vernons free bingo for the cashback is not going well :rotfl: I've never got more than that £2 odd from them, I doubt I will now, but I'll do it when I'm bored one last time.

One piece of really good news is that somebody's come back to me on freecycle offering a pasta maker - I love pasta, and eating wheat is really no good for me, so I want to give making gluten free pasta a go, but I'm really not sure about it, so didn't want to pay out, and "everybody" says that "everyone" has an unused pasta maker in their kitchen cupboards. And it turns out that someone on my local freecycle does! Nice people! Nobody wanted the book I put up on the list in "payment" tho :o ah well.

Off now to check that French banking is going the way it should (I hate even checking the account) and if so paying the managing agent's fees.

Lunch at home, then I'm off to London.

That's good news on the pasta machine, always fancied having a go at making my own though I can see it getting very messy :rotfl:

Talking of gluten free, have you ever sent off for the freebies from http://www.glutafin.co.uk/ ? They have something to send off for every couple of months usually.

I tried to do glutafin one time, but it said I had to have a prescription? And tho I've been allergy tested by the NHS, I don't have a scrip.

I can see me making dough being *incredibly* messy! Crumble, I can manage - its all a bit rough and ready, but I only do that about twice a year. So I'm really not sure a pasta maker is going to be worth it - thats why I wanted one on freecycle! I might have to just pass it on!

Hi Karmacat. Good luck with the pasta making. I got a bag of gluten-free flour from Freecycle recently (we're not allergic but always up for free food - I did say to the lady to give it to a genuine gluten-free person if one came forward but I was the only taker). ANYWAY... I found the flour to be pretty useless for making ordinary things like bread and crumble, so I've been using it mainly to thicken sauces and for sprinkling on the work top to roll things out on. The whole experience has made me conclude that flour contains gluten for a reason.

Have you tried Spelt flour? It's a much older variety of wheat and I've read that some people with an intolerance to modern flour are fine with Spelt. It makes really lovely bread, I've never tried spelt pasta though.

I think it used to say that on their site but I've had free bread and two lots of pasta from them this year, and I don't have a prescription (I've not been tested but have spoken to doctor about it and they basically said to try not to overdo either wheat or dairy products - and I definitely suffer if I do). Definitley worth registering with them, then they email you when they have a freebie on offer.

Seaxwyn, I know what you mean about the flour, it takes a bit of experimenting with to get it to 'work'.

Hmm.. wondering if there's anything useful on Freecycle now, I always forget to look...

Thanks folks! Seaxwyn, its gluten free flour I use for crumble - but you have to mix the types - I use a variety of rice, soya, corn and potato flour (not each one every time tho!).

Spelt - I haven't tried it, the fact that its the grain from which our modern wheat comes from has put me off, tho I know logically thats not sensible.

Glutafin - aha! Okay, if they've dropped the prescription thing, I'll watch out for it, thanks.

And as for freecycle - I don't look through it regularly to see if anyone wants anything I have, I'm afraid. There are a hundreds of posts a week in my local one, and they all seem to want things I don't have!

:rotfl: I am *such* a bad person! I've popped over to Vernon's twice today - it was the deposit £10, get £15 Quidco cashback, so I'm not actually doing it with my own money, and Vernon's has tracked on Quidco, so its fine. I've previously won £2.31 on Vernons, and now I've just won - and withdrawn!!! - another 26p!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: 26p! They're going to ban me, they're *bound* to ban me, this is mad! Takes my winnings up to £2.57 tho! :rotfl:

Phil vickery was doing gluten free recipes on This Morning yesterday, they looked really good. I think he used a variety of flours...Might be worth checking out.

Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:
  • I managed to win £55.50 at Vernons with the free money + the net £5 in quidco, made it a 'nice little earner'.

Keep playing that free money :)

Thanks Bob, I'll have a look at their website. I have the pasta maker now - its v swish, v heavy, obviously good quality - but now I'm googling "cleaning pasta maker" - they're fiddly things that can't be immersed in water, oh joy. There's one webpage that has you dismantling the damn thing! And youtube shows you how to use a brush on it (!).

GTD - you made *how much*!!!!!! I'm jealous!!!!!!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: And very, very admiring! How on earth did you do that?
