Thsnks for reminding me of this! I used to save pin money when they children were small and the money was tight.

One thing I used to do was buy a 56lb bag of potatoes, you can tell how long ago it was.
I would then sort through it and take out the larger ones for jacket potatoes. The rest I bagged in 5lb bags (as sold in the shops) and sold them to myself at the shop price. The children helped with the weighing (maths training!) and anything that looked as though it might go off soon was used up first.

This money plus coupon money etc went on other bulk buys or offers which were then resold to myself.

We don't eat enough potatoes now to makae this worthwhile but the principle is the same. June will be the beginning of my pin money jar.

    Thanks again

Well, May is almost out, the new job starts tomorrow, at the end of the month I get a proper salary for the first time in 10 years, and I did so well during May - even with the holiday shopping last weekend - that I'm going to attempt the PMS challenge for June too.

My bank has helped me out in the short term by temporarily increasing my overdraft and sending me a credit card. Until I get real dosh in my hand, I have to use the credit card (I'll cancel all the others, and just keep the additional one with the 0% balance transfer on it) and make sure I pay it off when the bill comes. My Tesco vouchers arrived while we were away, but I haven't opened them yet so don't know how much that will be.

However, because I'm still using the credit card at the mo, all of my PMS will be virtual ones. For now.

In a different thread - and I've only just got back off holiday so haven't searched yet - someone said they got cash back on their coupons. How do you do that?

I think what they meant was they used the coupons and then asked for the equivalent amount in cashback.

I'm getting worried now, everybody seems to have their Tesco vouchers and there's not a sniff of mine :(

Ah - yes. So as I'm using a credit card for now, I won't be able to try it. Yet.

And where are you in the alphabet? We're P, so we weren't one of the first wave of Tesco vouchers.

    :hello: Welcome exlibris :hello:
I still buy 56lb sacks of spuds from our local farm shop, sooooo much cheaper than the supermarket. Ours also sell half sacks for those who wouldn't be able to wade through a whole sack.
    Good luck for June :):)

Spendaholic: I get cashback from my Tesco Vouchers (I use my Tesco Visa throughout the month for all my purchases so I max out on the points and pay it off in full every month). So I can claim the cash back, I make a shop which covers the coupon values (things I would buy anyway!), pay by Switch and then ask for the equivalent in "cash back". That cash amount is then paid into my savings a/c to earn interest. I know others save up their vouchers throughout the year and then use them to do their Christmas shop.
Good luck in your new job!! How exciting!! :j

moggins - hope you get your vouchers this week!

Glad you're joining our PMS Challenge - I'm flattered that you've given your spreadsheet the title of Pin Money :T :D:D:D

Yup, we do the "see a penny, pick it up ... good luck" too :D LOL

Thanks Queenie! Find some Pin Money, pick it up, all the day you'll have good luck!

It's amazing how it all adds up. As I always say, "There are a few ways to save a thousand pounds, but there are a thousand ways to save a pound!" I think the key is to be vigilant in lots of little ways.

I'd love to learn some more little ways from others doing the PMS Challenge!

    Weekly shopping budget: £50
    Today's spend: £32.56
    VPMS so far: £17.44

I went over budget on the initial spend (£51.14) so that taken into account with the £18.85-worth of vouchers equals £17.44 so far.

It's virtual because I'm still using a credit card - and I decided to use the Tesco card.
