PPI paperwork sent back.... Mortgage paperwork sent back..

He's got no choice but to say no. He doesn't have an income of his own to chuck in her direction even if he wanted to. If this has come about because the kid got a decent Christmas and Birthday spend, she needs to stop and think about who effectively (and usually actually) pays for the things. She owns her house outright. Her OH makes a shedload. She makes a shedload. Her parents have a massive second home overseas because they have shedloads. But she thinks that somebody who doesn't have a job can pay the best part of twenty grand a year? And gets the child to announce the decision?

If he's that smart, they'll offer him a scholarship plus bursary. If he's not, she can pay it if she wants him to be 'better than everybody else' he goes to school with. If that's not possible for whatever reason, he'll just have to go to one of the local secondaries like all the other kids.

Now, had I a job in the private school in the first place, I'd have no problem with using the employee perk they normally offer of a fee reduction (if it applies to stepchildren/whether you're married to a parent or not), as if I were to leave after he started, there would be a good chance that they'd continue offering the reduction afterwards, particularly as he's not my kid. But I don't. And I'm not about to look for employment there just to give her bragging rights on the estate where she lives.

Mind you, had she been a nicer person - or anything resembling a normal, rational human being - she might have found out that my sister works at one of the most prestigious state schools in the country. In Admissions. In a position of Authority. In an area that is roughly fifteen minutes' drive from her work location. And I have several friends/ex colleagues who are also in senior positions in private schools who could recommend somebody for admission and bursaries/scholarships.

Bit late for that now, though. But if she'd permitted contact, perhaps it might have come up in conversation at some point.

Although, had GuitarTwat kept his old job and kept doing the music as a hobby, between us, we probably could have made a dent in the fees.

Well - discovered that our new windows and doors haven't been finally sealed, because that's due to be done when they put on the new cladding - whenever that might be  So, in our east facing apartment it's been like a fridge for the last two days - with the blizzards hitting the balcony and snow-drifting up the walls  We have had all the heaters on all day and night (trying not to even think about the bill) just to try to keep warm. I'm so BOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRREEDD ...

I am driving myself insane.. I can't sit still.. I can't do anything I want to do because everyone is in bed sleeping.. I need something to focus my brain cell before it explodes.... I've been like this over a week now and I know this is me.... but I hate it..

Oh, and my hip is so painful tonight... I dropped half a bunkbed on it earlier while dismantling it.. OH went downstairs to change the baby's smell and came up 45 minutes later by which time I had done it by myself.. I've painted the bathroom.. I am driving myself crazy!

    Morning

I have someone local who wants to look for bidding on an ebay item, so I have said yes, he will have to walk here as there is too much snow to get up the small hill near by.

Day off todya, so going to do ironing, and keep warm.

Hoping Dizzy is OK, think she might be in a bit of the country where they are getting it really bad. Hugs to anyone struggling with this weather x

Pigpen I know exactly what you mean. One of the joys of my anxiety is that I cant switch my brain off. Telly is a waste of time but strangely the one thing I can do (other than working) is read. I seem to be able to completely focus on a good book and forget everything else.

JoJo all I could think about was the poor kid (assuming he wants to go to that school). As a mother I couldnt do that to my child.

So glad its Friday. An icy journey into work I think, road doesnt look too bad from here but there are hardly any cars going up and down.

Right, got to shift myself. Keep warm and have a good Friday all x

I made freezer veggie soup for lunch that'll keep us going for five days and it's cleared a huge amount of stuff out. I also made these with a frozen whoopsied packet of puff pastry and they're bloomin' lovely. Veggie, and we'd defo have them again, well, in fact, we have to because I made six from one packet of pastry so we've three more for another time. I had one for breakfast!

Carpets hoovered on the ground floor.

Thank you for this link Honey, I've also saved it as we have everything too. So may make these later today :D But it is one I will printing out and putting in my receipe folder :D:T
