I think I'm going to join the Scrimpies for March, too. February was a bit too spendy for my liking. It's absolutely silent here, no sound of traffic even though we're technically the city centre apart from hearing the birds squabbling around the feeders. It's even quieter than first thin on Christmas Day! OH said kids are hauling sledges and sliders up to the Hoe doing what all kids should do on a snow day - good, I hope they remember today for the rest of their lives.
I've got an unexpected morning off, so I'm thoroughly enjoying it and I'll do a bit of flying later and then get on with sewing. Perfect.Better is good enough.0 -
Good Morning all,
Great to see so many fellow Scrimpers :j
My purse will be staying firmly shut today -it's a snow day so both kids are at home and I have no plans to go anywhere at all. I loathe snow, I wish things would go back to normal, roll on Spring. DH can't drive to where he needs to be for work, and couldn't yesterday, and unlikely he can tomorrow so that's three days of no pay for him.
Lunch and dinner are random bits defrosting as I type. Kiddies about to go sledging with DH -not me I am staying warm thanks!MFW

I too am scrimping; but doesn't feel like it when I am flinging two tubes of body scrub in the bin - because they contain microbeads which are causing a problem in the oceans.
Going to finish cleaning the bedroom now.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

Have done the basics this morning.. both DS's are home..currently attending to school/college work (and job search for eldest!)
Have enjoyed the flurries of snow going on outside the window.. Also feeling very grateful that I am not due into work till Saturday.. It's absolutely freeeezing out, both kitties are snug and warm inside too.
Shall flick vacuum around once we've had dinner..
Keep warm and safe everyone! :snow_grin"There's a little witch in all of us"🔮🪬🧿DEBT FREE 06/2018Mrs SD’s Decluttering 2025 ⭐️ 🥇0 -

Half Snow Day. Which meant travelling in the worst of the weather, only to find vastly reduced numbers of kids, and walking back just as the sheets of ice were forming.
Himself has travelled off to Central London for a rehearsal because I got the School is Open text. Had it been closed first thing, he would have stayed.
Came back to a cold house which is not getting any warmer despite the central heating being on full blast. It had only been off for about 4 hours (having been on low all night and has probably been on for the preceding three days and nights as Himself keeps it on since I told him off for getting cold - so much so, I had several evenings of feeling like I was melting before this week) and every drop of Warm had disappeared.
Offered the Idiot Cat the opportunity to investigate the white stuff. He stood at the door, looked a bit pensive, sniffed - and turned around to jump back on the kitchen table. So I slung out some handfuls of dried fruit, suet and bird seed to catch the groundfeeders. I would have made a birdcake, but the kitchen has been left in a right state AGAIN.
Wondering whether the GuitarTwat will be able to get himself home or not. If not, he's sleeping on the armchair of the singer, whose flat is freezing cold at the best of times. Serves him right if he does. He could have cancelled.
I suppose I could make a start on the washing up. That would warm my hands up, at least.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Frog dealt with - ribbon binding that was unravelling from a pair of slippers sewn back on - very 'scrimpers'.
With the amount of 'free' time I have I just have a frogless list...Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

More *healing vibes* for you Ionafan.I too am scrimping; but doesn't feel like it when I am flinging two tubes of body scrub in the bin - because they contain microbeads which are causing a problem in the oceans.
But you can legitimately shine your halo. I use a flannel - cheap as chips, they last for years and they're biodegradable when they've been worn to a few threads, and have the same effect as any other 'scrub'. Plus, if you rinse them and wring them out you can dry yourself with one before picking up your towel to finish yourself off. Result - towels stay fresher for longer.
No spend day here - I'm not venturing out other than to trundle Kelpie, and after his pooh walks first thing all he's getting for the rest of the day is a quick pee in the garden. He doesn't like cold feet and just lies down in the snow until his toes have warmed up! At the moment he's comatose on the sofa.
Freezer stockchecked and meal plan checked and altered for the month. We're eating our way through the freezer so that I can defrost it, and the top shelf and bottom drawer are now entirely turned over to the animals, which is huge progress. Kelps has beef, turkey, chicken and rabbit to look forward to as well as all of his bones.
I made freezer veggie soup for lunch that'll keep us going for five days and it's cleared a huge amount of stuff out. I also made these with a frozen whoopsied packet of puff pastry and they're bloomin' lovely. Veggie, and we'd defo have them again, well, in fact, we have to because I made six from one packet of pastry so we've three more for another time. I had one for breakfast!
