Been a funny old day today going out in the snow then back in for a bit then out again etc. Done a load of washing. Been good for my scrimpers challenge - second day with no money spent! We had a walk before tea in the snow and it was lovely; very peaceful with no cars around. Off to bed soon, stay warm and safe everyone xFlymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0

Evening all
I've not been feeling well all week, but Just managed to catch up with the thread. (((Hugs))) to all in need especially Dizzy, Lynn and Jazee; well done to all Scrimpers; and I hope everyone stayed safe today.
It's been a funny old day here. No flying apart from cooking and then loading the DW. At 06.30 I put a stew in the SC for tea, and after breakfast I left the house to walk the 2 miles to the GP surgery because the local roads had not been cleared and the bottom of our hill is steep. After the very dry snow we had yesterday and overnight I took my Nordic walking poles (an excellent investment 8 years ago, and used more this winter than ever before), and it took me 40 minutes to get there at a brisk pace. Had my shoulder injection - now pain-free- and then walked up to the local high street to have a :coffee: and intending to catch the bus back; however, I found that the local buses weren't running, so I ended up walking all the way back again (2.3 miles this time, including the detour to the bus stop).
After lunch I checked the weather forecast and there were no serious weather warnings: we've been on the edge of the amber zone, with the snow apparently moving away from us in a westerly direction. Then I checked my FB page and realised that if I didn't get to a 2x half-day event at college this afternoon, several of the exhibitors would be leaving this evening. DH offered to take Rosie out , so I set off towards for college with just light sleet falling - driving to the big city which is to the east of us - and got there in 30 minutes (normal driving time) with absolutely no problems on the roads. However, during the hour I spent at college the flakes got bigger and bigger and turned into a raging blizzard, and the roads got snowier and icier. At one point on my way home I was going uphill, stuck in a double line of traffic, with some very kind local people ahead of me pushing cars one at a time uphill over a particularly icy patch, and I was watching a bus about 50 yards ahead of me sliding back down the hill towards the following cars. Very scary, but fortunately the locals cleared the snow for it, and it made it up the hill! I left a big space between me and the car in front, drove at about 15 mph and managed to get up the hill unaided, then drove the rest of the 14 miles home without exceeding 22 mph, despite some idiots tailgating me. I considered myself very lucky to get home safely in only just over 2 hours! However, the last 50 yards up our road and drive were impassable, so I left my car parked on the verge down on the main road, where it will have to stay until our road and cul-de-sac are clear of snow :snow_grin
After 12 hours' cooking the stew was non-nom and much appreciated
Tomorrow we are definitely not going out at all except for walking Rosie!
Keep safe and warm, everyone.0 -
Morning all
It doesn't feel like the weekend at all, DD has been off school since Wednesday, I think we will all be glad when life gets back to normal (hopefully!) on Monday!
DH is snoring his head off, kiddies are eating bagels watching TV. I have fed the birds - it does feel vaguely milder than it did yesterday, still bitter though and my WM pipes are still frozen!
DH is taking DS out for a bit this morning - DD has a funny tummy so she will stay at home with me. I must mop some floors today.
No need to spend any money today wooohoo!
Have fab days all xxMFW

Iona thats been the same here, one minute its clear, the next a complete white out. On Wednesday DS1 wanted to go to a particular shop and off we went in bright sunshine. Came out of the shop and the sky was very dark, half way home the snow started - you literally couldnt see a thing and the road was instantly white over. DS is an excellent driver though, I felt very safe.
And atb I am sure you are not on your own. I am a tiny bit glad I made it into work because I would have gone stir crazy stuck in the house.
Off to do a little paid stuff, no idea what the rest of the day brings but we need food so I must make a list!0 -
Morning all, hope you're all ok.
No real plans here today, maybe some dog walking but we've another layer of snow, maybe some sewing, reading or paperwork. Who knows? So far I've just sorted out the vases of fresh flowers.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.0 -
Morning all.
Amazingly the delivery guys turned up yesterday. A few hours late, but I honestly didn't think they'd make it. Sadly one of the items is damaged, so I will have to report that and ask for an exchange. Thirty black sacks of polystyrene packing (plus the removal of a bead of it from Tiny's right nostril - deliberately inserted by him !!!!!!) and a mountain of cardboard boxes later, the bedroom is kitted out.
Today will be spent mainly ferrying all the rubbish to the tip (if it is open and we can get off our driveway - cleared and salted yesterday and now 6 inches deep again) and filling wardrobes and drawers will all our gubbins.
I need to get food soon too as we have fairly depleted the pantry. Why do The kids seem to eat at least twice as much as usual when they are home?
I also need to call the plumber to sort out the tank overflow which has created a huge three storey ice-flow down the side of our house. Not hopeful of seeing him any time soon...
Flying will be required to keep warm in these Arctic conditions.
Warm hugs (like Olaf) to everyone. Stay safe xxx0 -
Dailies are done with help from DH. I have no GUAG.Spend less now, work less later.0

I am pleased your furniture arrived Dizzy - have a fab day organising everything
I have walked the dog and the kids made all the beds inc. ours without being asked!!
DH and DS out now; I have ironed DD's name labels into her new school uniform, and enjoying a brew. This weather makes me want to eat more too - must resist, must resist.
DW is on and kitchen sides are clear. Will walk the dog again when DH gets home.MFW

I am definitely glad to see the back of this week, but it still has its claws in me - would anyone like a BD? No-one had covered my job while I was on leave so that was... ermmm... fun? I like being busy but starting the week with an answerphone saying 'you have 30 new messages and 30 saved messages' made me  On top of that, following the review, which has been ongoing for over two years, I'm being 'slotted in' to the job I already do (yay) but with a revised job description _pale_ which is 95% fine but ... I've asked for a meeting with the managers and HR to ask for clarification of the other 5%Cue high anxiety. I travelled to work with DS on Wednesday, then got in to my car on Thursday morning - flat battery (somewhat relieved at first having watched NDN try to reverse his car out of the drive: he doesn't have gate posts, I have!!) and now I have the hassle of an immobile car. Exacerbate high anxiety. However (is there a fanfare emoji) thanks to a previous bout of flying I knew exactly where the battery's guarantee is kept and it has a year to run :T :money:) It's still a b@ll@ache though
And I've just cried at DS which rarely happens - he is bringing THE GIRLFRIEND over for the first time today. He says he's not embarrassed by the state of the house, but I amHaving just had a week of coming home from work, cooking tea and falling asleep in the chair every evening (probably because I'm not sleeping well in the night - buzz, buzz, buzz) once again the house is a !!!!!!-tip. So much for keeping on top of the dailies...
Anyhoo - he has gone off to pigpen-land to pick up said female after first depositing his floordrobe on my bed  and then hoovering his room :T
I have fed the birds - they've been on double rations all week and oh Dizzy I love you - making warm porridge for the chickens' little tummies and so sad that one little hen didn't make it. Hugs xx I've deposited DS's floordrobe in front of the WM and made my bed; WM x 1 is now swishing; rubbish and recycling have been taken out. It looks a little better already.
Oh, DS made a flylady funny: we were travelling home from work and I remarked on the bins all being out due to cancellation of bin men. I innocently remarked 'the Council have said to leave out the bins and they'll be emptied when they get round to it' Quick as a flash he said ' Clever Council. Get a Flylady on the job'. I looked at him gone out, then the penny dropped (d'oh) ... Roundtuit :rotfl: It made me laugh
Right - I'm going to change DS's bedding, put new pillows on his bed, and I'll put the new bath mats down too. Might as well put new pillows on my bed too - hope I don't bite my tongue in my sleep again (how is that even possible without waking up???) ... wanders off pondering the mysteries of life......
