That and the having to explain to people what blancmange is.
It was bad enough when they said you make soup? like they did in the war?.

Haha, I had this at work too! I was heating up some homemade soup in the microwave and someone the same age as me (after I'd explained that I didn't buy my flavour of soup anywhere, it was made from bendy veg at the bottom of my fridge) said "what?! How do you make soup?!?!" like it was witchcraft...

Spend day today, £4.50 on hospital parking, given bloomin' crutches. Also spent £4.90 in Asda whilst waiting. Picked up some freebies from a few other places with promotional vouchers.

On the upside, I ordered a slow cooker recipe book for £1.99 from Amazon which arrived this evening. There are some fantastic ideas in there and I can't wait to try them out.

Grateful for: Amazon driver offering to put my parcel in the hall rather than leave it on the doorstep when he saw the state of me :D
Despite the parking charge, the NHS (even if my urgent referral did take 10 weeks :))
  • Evening! We have not long got back from an amazing family break away. Chuffed as we managed to come home with £50 of the allocated holiday fund left. It's gone straight into savings. I managed to do the food shop today too and to my amazement I was so determined to stick to budget that I took to getting the calculator out on my phone and tapped everything in. At one point I nearly went £2 over but decided the dessert wasn't needed so put it back. We have some NSDs planned now and starting on the April budgets tomorrow.
    Hope you're all ok ;)
    I am now debt free:T - 20/03/18. Whatever your situation - just.keep.going!

    Hi all :j

Lovely bright day here finally but the wind was very cold....went out into garden twice for two goes at it - cleared the weeds in half the borders then put fertilizer (I hope - no label on bucket, lid broken) on top, then compost, then some of the bargain stone chips. Only done half so far but it looks good, hoping that it will save time later in the year, supressing weeds & also feeding the soil & keeping moisture in, we'll see. This is in a part of the garden that the animals can't access, hence it is actually a garden rather than a complete mud pit. Also have lost one of the plastic sliding doors off one of the Dalek like compost bins, so one dog stick her head in there & eats all the kitchen compost, yuk. 2 more NSDs to add to the tally, but shopping day tomorrow plus CS stint...have sorted a few bits to take with me.

    · For the striders: 13/18 NSDs

    · Set your budgets before the challenge starts - did a fair few spends, need to update spread sheet. still ongoing.

    · Be generous ; will do

    · Note down Certainly need to do this, in order to get a handle on spending. Have noted down spends & will update. Have all receipts need to log .

    · As ever, will do

    · Pay towards your debt first! Do not have debt now but have been there before so am very wary. Do have a CC paid off in full every month. Will make a payment on cc today. tried to make payment but lots of error messages, double tomorrow. Glitch sorted, will pay tonight.

    · Plan. Will make list of places to go - need to have it in reserve for impromptu trips out. Still A WIP, but found another to add to the list. DH suggested another day out. list growing, another couple of ideas today. DH consulted - has ideas apparently..

    Check in every day. Almost!

Spent on food (mainly sandwich stuff). Walked to my appointment and back (phone has told me I have passed half my steps). Quite pleased as I have been coughing madly all weekend and the cold wind was taking my breath away. I have decided I want to walk and be able to walk more, so I did - if I can do it when I am this bad (had to stop an dhold onto walls/ trees/ signs several times) I will be okay.

Today I am grateful that my feet are fine, glad that I could walk and grateful for finding several interesting new books in the large print section (eyes are tired - may be side effect of the cough/ bug).
My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.

    Still on NSD 10

Awful awful parents' evening last night. I do not know how to make a child engage with someone else's lessons. He is not disruptive at all. Just totally passive and does not see the relevance so does not really engage. Gets good marks in all tests and assessments though. Came home in a foul mood. It has not really gone away. But you can't really opt out of them can you? Oh well, roll on GCSE options next year. That will be fun.

One of ours got lost too, but we made a substitute by cutting a piece to fit from waste plastic. It isn't perfect, but better than the dog getting in there  Especially as my dog is of the size where the whole thing would fit in quite easily :rotfl:

lavenderBee my mate once asked me if I had a soup making machine and I was like "yeah, a pan" haha!!

Today is a spend day, but I am being reimbursed as I am sending a load of things to my brother abroad that he cannot source there, yorkshire tea, oxo cubes and the like.

Spent yesterday as I went to Tesco and got some breakfast bars that were on offer for Paris. Also got a load of pre chopped onions, which were YS which I froze- I thought of you Mothernerd

Son had a huge growth spurt so I had to go shopping and spent 80 quid on all new trousers for him. pfft, looks lovely though in his new clothes :)

Not much else to report, hope everyone is ok xxx
  • Hello, it's official - DH and I are now DEBT FREE! I can't believe it!!! We hadn't used credit for over 2 years so I'm confident we aren't at risk of getting ourselves into CC debt soon.
We have some money in EF so next goal is to build that to 3 months living costs and then save for a morgage deposit x Today is a good day! One I'll remember for a long time x
