Nipped into Tesc0 yesterday morning to get some flowers for my nan's bday - got a gorgeous bright clashing colours bouquet which I personally loved :) Noticed the car park was heaving and shelves already emptying as there had been small snow flurries first thing (didn't settle due to wetness of ground) Went to watch DS2 play rugby (brrr!) (where I passed on the flowers and a card to my mum, who is/ was (snow?) seeing my nan today) and then came home and - after a warming cup of tea - OH and I popped back to TEsc0 and did the shopping with the list I'd written the day before. Shelves were emptying fast (haven't actually fully recovered from the other week yet) but we got all of our things (bar eggs) and a couple of other bits (new drinks bottle for OH and a 'takeaway' curry box on offer @ £5 for serves 2, but we make it serve 3 with an extra naan and some pakoras (YS from freezer)) so we spent just over £50 and shouldn't need anything else for a few days (will need milk, eggs and GPig veggies later in week)

Woke up to snow this morning - so am glad we always planned on doing the shopping yesterday :) GPigs are inside :) OH and boys built a snowman and had a snowball fight (I had a much needed lie in and then went for a shower - by the time I'd dried my hair (I don't usually, but was not going out in the snow with wet hair) they'd essentially had enough and came in for warm drinks. Plans for the rest of the day are hunkering down - doing homework/ revision, housework and then a family game :)

    Keep warm and safe! :)

If I have used rice to blind bake some pastry, can it then be cooked and eaten as normal rice, or have I ruined it for anything other than any further blind baking I might do in the next decade...?

I don't think it would work if you tried to cook it in the normal way. Never tried though!

What is this weather like? Yesterday we had gale force winds and snow, it was snowing this morning when I woke up and now beautiful blue sky. Still freezing, though.
So another NSD yesterday since I stayed indoors again. NSD no 12.
Still eating from freezer and stores. Made curried lentil soup for lunch today and there was a chicken which we'll have for dinner.
This weather does make you lazy. I've done most of the washing (of which there was a lot) but really must knuckle down to some serious cleaning.
    Have a good Sunday.

Woke up yesterday to brilliant blue skies but chilly. Path was dry to put the washing on the line. Went outside to the bin about 4pm and it had snowed/ was still snowing, so brought the washing in. Weird snow though, mostly a strong wind with the odd snowflake drifting around in it - the path was still clear, car park was clear snow was nesting on door ledge, bits on the bins and stuck to various objects in the yard and in corners.

This morning looked out and everywhere was white, went back to sleep (it was only 6am) and when I woke again it was mostly clear but bitterly cold.

NSD 10 in the bag. Finally.

Will brave the over 1cm of snow and hit the YS at Mr T's later in the hope the old ladies with the sharp elbows will stay indoors watching the FA cup.

Other than that, it is making the kids do their homework.

Totally wierded them out yesterday by making chocolate custard to go with their chocolate sponge pudding. A blast from the 80s school dinner menu past. They were utterly bemused. Wonder how to make pink custard? The colouring was probably banned for making you sprout an extra head, or arm, or something.

    pollen doesnt lie. The swine

Think strawberry blancmange would work - there is a company that still makes it, in a pack of 5 different flavours. Method is same as when making custard from powder. You may have to hunt for it - think the misnamed 'a n g e l d e l i g h t', supermarket versions and other newer products have taken over.

A NSD for me and fairly lazy so far - overextended myself earlier and not inclined to start again (must do some thing as I do not want to go into this week unprepared - have two appointments this week as well as all the usual stuff).

Today I am grateful that I did not clean the bathroom yesterday, for hot baths and for simple food (slight tummy upset so eating low fat cheese spread on crackers).

MIA for most of March due to illness and recovery but have been following. Meals plans a bit awry due to above but NSDs at 15............I only count shopping as spend days. I have booked a few days away in the real snow visiting DD1 for a few days - needed a break for a long time. Its all been paid for by some recent sales so all good:) Hoping to be fully fit and back on track by the times April is here :)

    5 tbsp cornflour
    3 tbsp sugar
a few drops pink food colour
    1/2 tsp strawberry extract/essence
    500ml rice/coconut/oat Milk etc

Combine the cornflour, sugar, food colour and extract in a bowl. Use a little of the milk to combine the other ingredients to make a paste, using a whisk.
Pour the rest of the milk into a saucepan and gently heat until hot but not boiling. Once hot pour into the pink paste, whisk to combine and pour everything back into the saucepan. Now you need to keep stirring with the whisk until the mixture just comes to boil and thickens to a nice custard consistency

You're so posh, greent! I was thinking: use the mix in the birds tin and add some red food colouring. Then I thought that that might turn it orange... and then I thought of it no more...
