    Is your DD unhappy?
That does not sound fair about the holidays.
Hate to say but it sounds like they are taking advantage of her :(

  • Poor DD!, If she took her 3 weeks off as unpaid then they can't count that as holiday. Only if they paid her for it! I hope she is getting paid for all these extra hours she is doing as well? Maybe she should quietly look for another position. I've stuck out a job where I was really unhappy and it made me very ill, it really isn't worth it!

Glad to hear about the kitchen Lucielle! :T It will be lovely once its done, and in time for Christmas :D Mine is being done slowly, but at least I can cook now, and wash up! We are waiting for the plumber to come back, but OH has to finish building a stud wall for the toilet first.

Hope you have a good break, I would love to visit up there! If you get a holiday home, can I come and stay?

They are being naughty, she will be accruing hols every month - she is entitled to a min of 28 a year so 2.33pwe month

Is she on a zero hours contract, some places only pay the holiday pay on the contracted hours not the hours worked. (On a zero hours contract they 'should' be paying her the average of the previous 12 weeks working

Thanks for all the replies. Dawnybabes my accountant told me the same thing when I had a chat with her. So 3 months till Christmas should mean roughly 6 days holiday, then taking off the bank holidays will leave her with 3 days leave. I've explained this to her but doubt she'll do anything about it. She's got a cunning plan to stay until February then leave go and do her lambing jobs. Have a couple of weeks off and then disappear over the horizon to New Zealand leaving me an emotional and hormonal mess! Great! Yes they are paying her for the hours she's working but there is no
    overtime paid.

TC we already have a house up there that we let out. Just looking at another one so we have something to do when we move up. We have no pensions to speak of so this will hopefully provide us with an income.

OH is still nagging about the kitchen. I've compromised and said when the ceiling is painted the table can go in. So the ball is in his court now.

Got my hair done yesterday so I don't resemble a skunk anymore. Really pleased with the colour and think I'll stick with this one. Had my contact lens check up and the new ones are working ok, just need to adjust the left lens prescription slightly.

When I picked the car up I took a CD with me to make sure it works. The poor salesman got it jammed in and it'll have to go back to be fixed. I felt sorry for him as I was his first proper sales.

  • Good luck with the house hunting then, it sound like a good idea having an extra income for when you retire! I am aiming to have the mortgage paid and not get into debt again :o

Glad to hear that DD is at least being paid for all the hours she has done. At least she can see an end to it and has an escape plan! I work in payroll now and it is shocking what some employers try and get away with!

Congratulations on the new hair do to- it is good to have a bit of pampering:-)

Hope the car gets fixed soon :-)

New car is being fixed today. Quite looking forward to it, as the garage is 110 mile round trip I'll stop read the papers, drink their coffee and I've also got my kindle with me. Plus they're going to put diesel in as well.

Potential house purchase is possibly not going ahead. The bank won't offer lend us enough. Currently have a broker handling it at the moment. The sellers have knocked 10k off the asking price as well.

I had some bad news on Wednesday, a chap we play badminton with has died. He'd been having treatment for a brain tumour but lost the battle. Leaves behind a wife, children and grandchildren. So, so sad.

An offer has been found by the broker. Still a long way to go but we know its doable.

Car mended and they put £40 of fuel in without quibbling, very impressed with them.
