Finally got my budgets up to date. Am over at this point by £7. I think my big T3sco was hit really hard by the snow in terms of vegetables, as for the last 2 weeks there have been huge amounts of YS vegetables and fresh stuff. So I've been taking advantage and my fridge is still full of it! Therefore I'm not planning on buying anything more this week and I want to try and eke out what I have in. It *should* be possible - perhaps I'll need to spend a couple of quid by the end of the week, but that wouldn't be too bad.
My pay will go in Saturday morning so my budget is just to last up to end of play Friday.

JingsMyBucket Hippy crack is it exactly!! Explains my collection of mystery ingredients lurking in the cupboard :rotfl:
I’ve meal planned for next week, supermarket shopped in the snow and resisted my normal Sunday treats of stinky cheese and olives.0 -
Ended up sitting for an hour in the car in the freezing cold whilst my husband walked up a steep hill in the peak district to rescue our middle son who'd been snowed in whilst on Beaver camp. Eldest son wanted McDonald's as we stopped there for the toilets on the way back home, but managed to persuade him that we had food at home.
Stopped at Asda on the way back for bread, chocolate weetabix (on offer), cake's for packed lunches and treated hubby to a box of his favourite coffee sachets as they were also on offer. Spent £7.55Grocery Challenge 2024

Hi all
Forgot to post last weekend so bit of a catch up:
£117.86 for last week (far too many small incidental shops in the week)
£14.88 for this week
The grand total now stands at £208.87/£250 which leaves me £41.13 for the rest of the month. I have two weeks left this week and next with only one shopping weekend so as long as I stay out of the shops this week for the small incidiental shops then I should be fine.0 -
Two NSDs in a row here! Yesterday I was working, but I had meant to get to the market this morning; however I had really sore feet & decided not to brave the snow, as I suspect a fair number of the stallholders will also not have been able to get there. We'll survive, there's plenty in the freezer. An accidental NSD will enhance my chances of making it through to payday inside the budget, too; I'll just need to be creative with what we already have in!Angie - GC Aug25: £207.73/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

Been using Aduki beans from pantry (aka tipville), rather than buying my usual brown lentils. They are an amazing substitute for veggie mince and make lovely dips etc. Down to the last bag. Not a fan of boiling them for 2.5 hours though. We have a no package store opening in my town, so gonna treat myself to an electric pressure cooker, if anyone can recommend one. I haven't got a clue what to look for, is it 'pressure' (doh). Might have to have a read up on it - I'm being my usual 'lazy' self. I'm not really bothered how much it costs, if it's a good one, though a bargain is always nice. .
i have an old fashioned pressure cooker i use on the stove top and love it but i've been toying with the idea of getting a pressure king pro. have been looking at them on amazon and they have great reviews. it seems they slow cook and do manner of stuff too.
i think for cooking dried beans a pressure cooker of some description is essential, really does save on the amount of fuel used. they take a bit of getting used to tho, but i'm under the impression that the electric ones are less hit and miss.0
