Amazon delivery scam

Hi
I'm posting up a warning about something that happened to my husband when he ordered online with Amazon recently. We both have Amazon accounts live at the same address and made recent orders. His order was for a high value laptop. Mine was for much less - a £15 USB hub - I ordered later but I asked for next day delivery. Both items were therefore due on the same day.
I work at home so was in the whole day but I got an email at lunchtime saying Amazon had "attepted delivery" but failed. I knew they had not attempted delivery so I immediately cancelled the order and requested a refund. I have received that refund - even though the item showed up as "delivered" on my order list.
Later that day my husband also had the same email. He (stupidly it now turns out) asked for a redelivery the next day, He was in and signed for the package the next day. This was an Amazon box with his name on it, but when he opened it it was filled with just packaging and a random selection of cheap items obviously used to make up the weight. No paperwork and no laptop. The laptop is showing as "delivered" on his order list. After 40 minutes on the phone to Amazon they maintained they needed the "goods " back before they can process a refund, but it seems clear that the laptop has been stolen either in the warehouse or in transit. We returned the crap in the box to Amazon.
He paid by credit card but we are unlcear whether a section 75 refund will be possible from the credit card company if he signed for the package.
Update: took nearly three weeks and a lot of phone calls but Amazon have refunded. We reported this to the police and we have subsequently read about similar thefts in the press (which were by the courier). This was an item ordered direct from Amazon not a third party seller.

This all sounds super weird.
Why did you immediately cancel and get a refund when it wasn!!!8217;t there when it was supposed to be? That!!!8217;s a weird thing to do.
Lots of weird activity at the same address is likely to get your account cancelled by Amazon, though you!!!8217;ll probably get your money back from your bank. But you don!!!8217;t want to use them again anyway so it doesn!!!8217;t matter. I!!!8217;d expect a full investigation from Amazon though as two items delivered but !!!8216;not!!!8217; is going to look pretty suspicious.0 -

Neither of us will buy physical goods from Amazon again. Any suggestions as to o
how we get the £1200 back gratefully received.
Why would you not buy from Amazon again ?
They aren't at fault, yes it looks like some light fingered soul has helped themselves to a laptop but don't blame Amazon.
Was the box sealed when he opened it ?0 -
I immediately cancelled because I had paid for additional super fast next day delivery and I wasnt willing to pay through the nose for an item that was going to arrive at the normal first class postage delivery time. Also forgive me for expecting that Amazon will not represent on their system that they were "unable to deliver" when I am in!
My husband hasnt cancelled his account because he is down by £1200.
We have never had a problme with Royal Mail or any other courrier -in fact I had something delivered by Royal Mail on the same day this happened wth no problem at all.
The suspicious actvity is Amazon's not ours. :mad:0 -
Sorry are you saying that if you ordered an laptop from a mail order company and when it arrived instead of what you ordered there was say a set of tea towels in the box you would not take it up with the mail order company? When a retailer sells via mail order they are responsible for delivery. That means keeping the items seucre up to the point of delivery to the custmoer in my book .
The person who delivered this item had an Amazon electronic pad which he took my husbands signature on. The items were in an Amazon box. In what way is this not Amazon's responsiblity?0 -

Because it was lunchtime and sometimes scanning errors happen.
You felt the need to cancel it when it was still within the delivery window.
Thats what people (from my view) find weird.0 -

If the box was sealed when he received it then someone at the Warehouse has made a mistake or taken the laptop for themselves, be hard to get the item out of the warehouse as they are possibly searched when leaving the building.
If the box was unsealed then possibly the courier or someone at the courier depot has the laptop.
Or maybe your delivery label was put on the wrong box.
I wonder if there's a way for Amazon to track which person packed the laptop.0 -
Was it sold by amazon or sold via a third party and fulfilled by amazon?
I am guessing it was sold via a third party?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

I would guarantee Amazon know that.0 -
I don't see what your order has to do with your husband's order. You cancelled because you were unhappy with the delivery time and thought they had been dishonest about the attempted delivery (incidentally, I sympathise with that as I also work from home and have been subject to said "attempts" myself!). Personally I would not have cancelled but would have got onto live chat and had a word - usually they extend Prime membership (assuming you have this but I might be wrong!) by a month and if you don't have Prime they'd probably refund the delivery charge.
The fact that your husband's delivery turned up sans product is, as far as I can see, completely unrelated. However, it must be a horrible situation as obviously it's your word against the delivery company (and potentially against Amazon). I personally would not have returned anything to Amazon without getting some further confirmation from them that they acknowledge the situation. I'd also have done so via email, pursuant to a phone call, as at least then you have a record of proceedings. I appreciate that's not particularly helpful this time round but just in case it happens again...
I suggest that you might now call the police and get a crime reference number (theft). You should then send this to Amazon in relation to this order (contacting them however you wish but always following up by email). You could also try a s75 chargeback.
Good luck.0 -

No it was sold by Amazon and it was also Amazon delivery that were responsible for the delivery. So basically Amazon have a security issue either in their warehouse or in the courier system.. I would add that we have ordered stuff from other companies since and have had no problem with Royal Mail or other couriers like UPS.0
