  • Thanks CMD - she is on medication for some stuff - and trying to get a diagnosis for others. She's 16 tho so wary of putting too much on here in case my wall of anonymity ever fails...

We've paid DS's £934 accommodation so pretty much have no unaccounted for money between now and when DH gets paid Friday.

I hope your DD gets the help she needs SavingH. It's very frustrating as a parent when you want to help and don't know how.

Roll on Friday! Gosh they seem to get more expensive as they get older!

  • Thanks CMD - they certainly do. DS goes back to uni this weekend and has no £ until around 11 October so that could be interesting.

Well we had another lovely weekend away without the kids which was great. DH worked overtime tonight he's not sure if it is plain or double time - 8 hours... so that will be nice when it comes

Today I bit the bullet and paid off the last £530 off my car. So now down to 4 debts instead of the 7 we had in July which feels a real weight off. I have my car insurance coming up though this month - so have a renewal quote just short of £300 - need to find somewhere cheaper...

Worked from home then took DD to Primarni before then doing another couple of hours work.

  • Thanks all. Think we are going to breach our emergency fund this month though and buy a car... DD fell last week and hurt herself and this week came off her bike - and has a minute fracture... The problem is that dealing with her is all falling to me as in taking her to and from school on days too ill / injured to cycle, to appointments etc as DH has a motorbike. Obviously this isn't good for me or my already high pressure job... So going to look at £750 car tomorrow for DH and hope that it is good enough. It is an 08 plate and with relatively low mileage and has 12 months mot... Thinking of just taking a punt and going for it. My insurance is due up in about a week or so anyway so may just get a quote for a multi-car policy...

Currently have £1600 in EF/Savings pot so should be okay. Will just have to work at refilling the savings next month. Taking DS back to uni at the weekend. Currently exhausted.... so everything feels a bit much. :( Very grateful that we have an EF though - and it just shows how much we bought on auto-pilot before... Potentially getting a car with less than 50,000 miles on the clock for under £1K sounds pretty good to me... In the past like decades ago - when we came to sell we sold it for the same price paid as it had already depreciated so much...

This is my car and it has so far worked out. Yes, I need some repairs in the next few months but it passed its second MOT with no work required. Hoping I can hold onto it for another 3 years without extortionate cost. Hope it works out for your DD
