Sounds like a good day yesterday. Glad work pressure has eased off a bit as well."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee3

Thanks HM and Jwil - it was one of the better days... Was still emotional though - but partly as I was so tired and I saw the counsellor which always seems to make me more aware of what is going on inside... Part of the point I suppose. I've paced myself better today and finished work earlier.
I also updated my finances. I spent 3 x as much on food this week as I had in the first 2 weeks of September!! No idea why. Although I am stocked up on things like loo roll and coffee and my tin cupboard is back to close to full. Still I went overboard and I am going to have to be careful to ration my food the rest of the month and try and only buy fruit and milk and a little fresh veg. Sadly, today I had to throw out some potatoes and carrots that had gone off. Really annoying. Reminder they are better in the garage. Trying not to mix up whose food is whose though so that's awkward. I may also be better off going back to having food delivered to control my spends.
I just batch cooked some chilli and cottage pies. Now I'm cooking for one rather than a family I am having to learn to divide it into portions and freeze straight away. So I just froze 1 cottage pie & 2 portions of chilli. I still have enough cottage pie for 3 or 4 and 2-3 portions of chilli in the fridge. All from 1kg of mince so pleased with that. Padded out with lots of veg. I reckon DD will have some cottage pie and possibly chilli while she's home. She's back tomorrow and a little under the weather. I need to go to a shop for her and buy some specific things so may nip out now while my cottage pie is in the oven.
My fridge part of the fridge freezer is creating pools of water for some reason all the time don't know what to do about it. My food is cold though and I can't afford to replace it...
I did the solicitor stuff today but she wants me to double check it tomorrow as there were some errors today. My latest solicitor's bill was just over £960. I have enough to pay that.
I am hoping, if I am ultra careful the rest of the pay month, to save £200 towards buying Ex out of the house. I've only got 1 more counselling session to pay this month as she's having a week off and I planned the next session after that for the day I get paid.
My car insurance is also due this pay period. I've sent them an email checking where I stand with the divorce - following MF's advice to try and avoid an admin charge to change it part year.
Also sent an email to Nat T't today to see if I can cancel...
Ex has agreed to pay half the fuel when I drive DS up to London when he moves. DS is going to cover the congestion charge.
I've just booked the day before off as I am having my hair done in the morning and am currently due to pick DD up in the afternoon. I am looking forward to when she can drive herself! She starts double lessons next week and thinks she'll have passed by January if she can get a test.
And I'm reading that and even I'm thinking that's my idea of an easier day... no wonder I'm tired!!! Hope things are going well with you.

Fitted in lots there for a quiet day 😁
If your fridge is one that deals with condensation then it could be that the drain is blocked.
You'll need a skewer or similar to clean it out, but make sure you have no food near as it will be gunky. If it's not adding up, compound it!4 -
The week isn't complete without cake.
I'm pleased DS has been paid. Is he going with that property he did the VC with or a different one (sorry if I've missed that update).
Hoping you'll have a relaxing weekend, with nice weather too.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.3 -
Thanks Grogged and MF
It was the one he did the VC for.
DD finished earlier today - so while it was still a 3 hour+ round trip it wasn't as bad as the other week which a lot longer. I was able to carry on and do a couple more hours work on my return. Ex is doing the DD drop off and pick up next week which should make the week much easier. The following week when it's my turn I've booked the day off. That way I can get my hair done, sort her out and still be reasonably fresh for taking DS to London the next day.
I went looking in the garage for some wood glue earlier - and while I didn't find it - despite knowing it's there somewhere - I did find a brand new pair of summer shoes I bought several pairs of a year ago and then misplaced. I definitely need to 'shop from home' more often as I have so many decorating supplies it verges on the ridiculous... A treasure trove for the future though all being well. Hopefully I can get more organised once Ex moves out...
I also found some daffodils, alliums and other bulbs I can plant so I may tip out some of my existing pots and re-plant them so I have some splashes of colour to look forward to next year. I'm sure I have tulip bulbs somewhere too... I have plenty of compost.
Did a load of washing yesterday and today so main chores done. I have Zumba tomorrow am and then ideally I need to do some garden stuff, some decorating and some decluttering over the weekend. I may make some time for art too - although I am starting to run low on canvases (I have loads of art paint). It would be good to get out with the dog at some point too. Ex is going to his Mum's Sunday so that's my best day for getting any decorating done.
I've asked Ex to start getting some of the crap down from the loft so we can get rid of it. He thinks there are old duvets and clothes up there - and chances are they can go to the tip and charity. He also kept loads of empty boxes that equipment came in... so hopefully they can go too. He wants to keep all of his old books - which is fine as long as he starts finding a new home for them. I want to find some memorabilia from childhood including my stamp collection. Ideally I want the loft either empty or close to it by the date of the divorce as it wouldn't be a good idea for me to go up there if I was home alone anyway. The garage has an overhead racking area that I could use for suitcases and the like...
Grogged - I'm not ignoring your suggestion re the fridge - but the only place that could be is frozen solid - and there's too much stuff in my fridge or freezer to risk defrosting it so stuck for now.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

My fridge freezer is in need of a defrost, but there never seems to be a good time for a defrost at the moment. I was thinking the summer would be better for a defrost, but now I'm wondering if winter would be better after xmas - it might take longer but at least we could keep the milk and butter cool in the garage while it defrosts. It was new with the house and seems to be frost free rather than auto defrost, which rather annoyingly seems to mean it needs a regular defrost. Hasn't helped that DD didn't fully shut the door a couple of times and loads of ice built up on the side walls. The fridge freezer in our old house, which we bought off the owners, was a good make but a few years old, so when we gave it a full defrost it virtually created a lake. Worked really well afterwards though and we sold it on again when we moved.
ps the decluttering plans sound really positive. I don't like having stuff stored where I can't get at it easily either and it will give you a really fresh start."Think of many things, do one"

Sounds like you are keeping busy - remember to take time to relax too.
getting the loft sorted will be a really good thing to do - you might find some forgotten treasures but you can also ensure ex takes any of his stuff with him. Also I always imagine a full up loft weighing down on the house so for me it feels like it figuratively lightens the load for the home.5 -
Thanks Sandy, Mark and Blackcats

I joined the great national fuel treasure hunt. I won at the fourth garage. I now have enough fuel for a couple of weeks. Will need to refuel to take DS to London a week on Saturday. Sainsbugs were the winners for me and for DS who was running out of fuel before he thought to look for some in Ex's car!! They put cones out after letting DS through so he only just made it - and only because he needed petrol not diesel.
Reconsidering whether to go into work Monday now or do a Team's meeting instead... but I have to go in Thursday unless that gets cancelled due to fuel. We had an external meeting planned but now who knows??
I moved a huge box of stuff out of the living room. So gradually improving but it always seems never ending.
Did I mention our green supplier went bust this week? So who knows what our future fuel bills will be!!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
