I'm just catching up after not being on for a while. You've got a lot going on and a lot to think about but your posts come across with a positive vibe. You're doing really well.Mortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000

I'm going to be matter of fact with this post SH.
When you next have the house to yourself in the evening work a few numbers out.
Property value, less mortgage, add life insurance = £? divide by 2 = ?
- That covers holidays, food, clothes, rent and anything else they need for the immediate future.
Make sure the DIS benefit and other company benefits are set to DS and DD.
- That's enough to give DS and DD a deposit and help them onto the property ladder or another dream they have.
As time goes on the mortgage reduces and their share potentially increases.
It's nice if they had 50% each of the whole property, but not if you're scrimping to meet the additional insurance premium.
When do you expect to have the house all to yourself, aside from weekend visits by DD and occasional visits by DS?
That's how long you need to try and retain your cleaner.
- In the alternative people have to start clearing up after themselves or contribute towards her cost or
- Limit the amount of things in use and reduce her hours.
Counseling, this is a must. It's hard going through everything and coming out the otherside in one piece. Could you possibly space the appointments out a little more instead of weekly do 2 weeks, instead of 2 weeks do 3 weeks etc
POA - easy to prepare yourself.
Will - ask your divorce or conveyancing solicitor to pass your details to their private client department for a quote. Generally they do a discount for existing clients.
- in the alternative wait for wills week when charities will pay; there's absolutely no requirement to leave them anything and if you want to leave the equivalent cost of preparing the will as a monetary figure.
You don't need a local firm. Pick one in a cheaper area in England or Wales and do it all by post, email and phone.
A cheaper alternative could be having a codicil prepared, assuming you've an existing will.
- probably not viable as the kids are now adults.
For now you've got to think of, and look after, yourself. You can't stretch yourself too far. This isn't forever and in a year or two it will be better.

Thanks all for taking time to post. Will take all comments into consideration.
Spoke to cleaner. She had been wondering. I said could pay up to £120 per month. This equates to around 2.5 hours per week * 4.2 weeks per month. I said at Christmas / December could still pay £120 she just might want to organise her hours differently.
MF I need a cleaner. It's not remotely my gifting and is part of my reward for being full time. It's part of how I stop my life descending into chaos. Gives me social interaction. Makes it respectable enough to have people over. I am sure things will be tidier and cleaner without kids and Ex but....
Paused work early today and come to the pub for a meal and drink. I need to carry on writing a report later and have a balance class at gym.
I applied for my mortgage today. Another milestone. I don't qualify for free will month they raised age to 55... I will check best prices on here or use c00p like before...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

You're doing really well.I am mostly feeling really positive. I was a bit grumpy at the weekend as I was pruning and taking stuff to tip that Ex had hanging around for years. I think because we are still in the same house I have little opportunity to miss him.
Currently I am most worried about the dog leaving... 🤣🐕🦺
DD being away during the work week is helping. Ex and I are taking turns going into work too which helps with peace and social. Will be interesting to see what impact DS potentially moving out in a few weeks has.
He and DD are both loving their new jobs which is a relief.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Lot of good advice here. I'm glad everything is moving forward and hope the mortgage approval comes through quickly."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee3

I should get a decision in principle quickly. I assume the rest is dependent on the speed of the valuer and solicitor.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Last night I gave myself a 15 min challenge. I prettied my hanging basket and pots out front by planting cyclamens. May buy a few more. They are so pretty.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
