Thanks JulieJim and welcome.to my diary. Thanks MF and JWIL.
Yes really looking forward to leaving our house for a bit!! MF I really like Scotland although last time we went in the drought 2 years ago it rained non-stop and we came home early. The place we stayed in the Dumfries area was gorgeous - it was DD that brought us home early. I think with regards to moving - I so want a bolt hole I am tempted to buy a second home even though we are still in debt. (Yes even I know that's not the best idea especially if other lockdowns could prevent their use anyway). So I am going to try and doggedly stay on plan and aim for next summer when we may have savings instead of debt. Moving to Scotland could even be MSE as it looks like if we move by 1/8/21 DD could get free uni tuition fees if she chose a Scottish uni.
We've had a really weird financial month - on the face of it we've paid £1487 off long standing debt. However my spending CC is back up to £1734. It was clear ahead of lockdown. My EF/Savings still stands at around £1K. TBF the £1197 that hit by the statement date is set to be paid in full in August pay period and includes:- a £433 bed that B3ns0ns failed to deliver yesterday - I put it on the card in case they went bust - I have no new date yet
- a £433 1k3@ bill for kitchen stuff we won't get until 28/8
- a £314 B*Q order we should get next week
- £120 drawers I'm awaiting a refund on that I returned yesterday
- £60 cooker hood I still need to return (and replace with one that sadly costs £130)
- £112 pcm towards DD's phone (a 5 month installment plan)
- £79 Annual pr1m3 bill
- Some food
- Still awaiting a £40 refund from Ik** and a £20 voucher for my trouble - when she told me last Monday if could take 14 days I thought she was exaggerating but it appears not!!
With the motorbike bill due in the next week - all of our spare August cash is therefore already accounted for which is sad. I may even need to hold off sorting a joiner, electrician and plumber - depending on how much of the spending CC we use for any bills and the speed of refunds. We could use the EF but it would be better if we didn't. I still need quotes. The joiner guy hasn't given me a quote in practice so think will need to look elsewhere which is frustrating.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Hope you manage to get a reasonable sleep. I can empathise, although it's not thunder and lightening keeping me awake. I've only been managing 4/5 hours sleep for the past couple of weeks, but it's all the rubbish running through my head that's the problem. OH is sleeping so I'm going to pick my book up shortly, and although reading doesn't send me to sleep it does relax me. XXI Believe.....

Hi Crystal
I struggle to sleep at the best of times. Too hot. Trying to wade my way through a 50 page report. Can't focus. Dreaming of a new life in the country once we are debt free. Need to keep goingAchieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

The heat is awful isn't it. Hope you get some sleep tonight. Great news about the cleaner!"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee2
