I like the beans suggestion. Will give that a go. Will suggest the scrappys to DH - we aren't used to having older cars anymore.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I've only ever had old ones, keep them going until no longer viable, then move on to the next one. Although, your definition of old may be newer than my definition (15-20 years old)
It may also be worth posting up in the motoring section for ideas and permanent fixes, just in case the sump isn't splittable.

DH says they've used special tape for now.
I got my hair done. Still worried about safety, hope I stay well.
DH has hurt his knee laying flags a week ago and it still hasn't sorted. He has rehung some of the kitchen doors and refitted drawer fronts. I need to touch up paint still. I am still weighing up whether or not I like the 'two tone' effect. Will live with it a few days and potentially paint the tiles white before making a final decision.

Hi guys. Well I did as little as possible yesterday as I was feeling shattered and went to bed early for me. Today I've had a better day as I started earlier - worked later but took an hour off at lunchtime sort the return of the wire baskets. Cost me just over £20 - hopefully they will give me a full refund of £120 - but expecting to lose the return postage as not their fault. DS took them to the drop off for me as DH had borrowed my car to go to work. Still need to return the cooker hood and mirror set - but still not had confirmation from the vender so I may need to raise a complaint. I've not booked any workmen for the kitchen yet as I've been feeling too stressed to juggle that along with everything else. I also need the refunds back in our account. My 1k3a kitchen stuff should come tomorrow.
Sadly DH's motorbike has a suspension fault that is due to cost an extra £180 on top of the £500 service so will definitely be raiding our saving/EF pot - although I do get paid at the end of the week so may stretch depending on when it's ready! With DH's car having an oil sump problem - can't not fix the motorbike. The bike is worth more than the car anyway. To cheer myself up though I have booked 2 nights away with DH in Wales at a B&B at the weekend for £160 as I am feeling stir crazy and need a break from the kids (17&22) as much as anything else! I'm sure time apart will do them good too LOL. DH asked was I sure I wouldn't like to go alone - I was sooooo tempted but said I could keep that in reserve if the 2 nights away with him doesn't rebalance me. I am worried about infection in going away - but hope that a B&B is a smaller pool of people so lower risk but it's luck of the draw.
Just cooked dinner and the microwave seems to have blown. Good job I was about to replace it with an integrated one... Still annoying though.

Hope the refunds / returns are sorted quickly for you. The kitchen will fall into place when you are more rested.
Wales will be a wonderful break and some quality time with DH is overdue. Perhaps there are some NT places to visit, unless you have other plans.

Thanks MF. In a role reversal DS has hurt his leg - so limited in how far he can walk at the moment. I just want to sit in a different set of 4 walls for a while. I haven't sat inside at anywhere else since lockdown began. Where we are going is surrounded by greenery and within an hour or less of the coast. It's not due to be the best weather - but may still be an option to visit a beach and paddle or whatever or just hear the waves. If the beach is empty enough I would be tempted to go in the sea regardless of temperature. We are going to mid Wales which tends to have cheaper houses with land - so while we won't go and view any we may go and look around the areas.
I also started randomly looking in Scotland last night and found some beautiful places near lochs. They looked divine. Some of the ones with land cost less than our house - so who knows it might all be more doable than we think. I worry though that we are giving DD twin stresses - the worry over her course and exams next year and the concern that she will effectively lose her home and all she's known if we move. We've lived in this house since she was 3. DS isn't concerned but then he hopes to be living in Canada by then!
The cooker hood people have now accepted my planned return - so I now need to find a courier for them too.
I want to try and sell the slatted bed base from DS's bed and possibly his mattress - although I am tempted as ever to keep it - DH would be cross with me if I did. Will see if family want it first and if not try a fbk advert. Even if I got a £10 it's better than nothing. The microwave started working again after it cooled down. I'd put a black bin bag over it to protect it from paint and it objected to the lack of ventilation!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Hope DS and DH recovers soon.
A lot of Wales is nice, great scenery and well worth a weekend away.
Don't rule up here out. It would be a complete change of life as it takes a while to get back to places eg your job. The rural locations with land can be subject to crofting laws, which brings the price down in a way. The borders / south Scotland would give you the option of working in Scotland and England
When I hit the border and saw the "welcome to" sign on the M-way, it was going to be hard to go back to where I was from. When I got to my destination I knew I had to move. I hadn't got any ties keeping me anywhere and could start over in whatever destination took my fancy.
What is the plan for DD, when the time comes? Perhaps tone down discussions about moving while she is around and doing her exams, but still work all your plans and ideas out.
Sell the base, you are not keeping it for a just in case moment!
Think my sibling uses P-rc3l2Go to find a courier when shipping things up to me, it's like a courier comparison site.
