  • Good news on mortgage payments, payrise and NI, every little helps.
Weight wise, I've had to lose 3 stone every time I've had a baby.... last time, I used my fitness pal and it worked well.  Previously I'd used WW, which also did the job, but I didn't want to pay last time!
I also love the pinch of nom recipe books, lovely food and all good when trying to lose weight.  There's a free website too, so not necessary to buy books straight off

    HI HSL and MF

Unfortunately most companies expect those self isolating to work from home if possible - so no automatic free pass to do nothing. I would spend my time doing art. I don't think the government has thought through this self-isolation lark at all. I think if someone is symptomatic - you automatically want to keep away but if they are 'self-quarantining' without symptoms it is a much more difficult concept. Cleaning every touched surface - really not doable. And if most people will have mild symptoms - how do you know what's relevant and what isn't? Also unless they contact people quickly that have been exposed - by the time you know about it - you could easily infect a whole load of other people.... They aren't even testing people now unless you are serious enough to need hospitalisation. I understand they need to conserve resources but still..

Our church sent me flowers and chocs and card because of my leg injury today which was a really nice surprise. DD has been falling asleep early all week - and been demanding car service to and from school instead of riding her bike. She thought she had a fever yesterday and has been complaining her chest is hurting. She feels normal to me. I worry all the hysteria could be feeding into her hypochondria - or worse it could be real.... She has been in school with someone who has been to Italy and is coughing and spluttering. It does feel like too little is being done - and too late.

DH worked late yesterday and today so should get overtime in his next pay. In other good news the bank has confirmed that our mortgage will reduce to 1.2 from 1/4/20 - saving us £60 a month - so providing the cut stays in place for the next year - £720 extra pounds towards the mortgage at no extra cost to us. Night all - sleep well!

Well we all work up and are alive to see another day. DD is demanding extra clothing allowance - as with my leg i can't take her to Primarni. Logical. Trust her to find a benefit from the situation. Cooked roast beef last night. Now cooking some roasties that we boiled earlier in the week. Still need to prepare some veg - although cooked carrots in with the beer. Of course I don't know where I am going to put the 6!!! paintings i did yesterday to finish drying so we can eat at the table.

My letter has arrived about me needing an MRI. So can potentially now book that private. Need to ring the health insurance people and check that the letter I have is enough. I am thinking of asking the doctor for diazepam for the MRI as I don't think I will be able to stay still long enough otherwise. The physio on Thursday wonders if the tear in my leg could be horizontal rather than vertical and whether that is preventing it healing. She said I might need some kind of boot. to support my leg. If I do I am likely to struggle with that although it would be good if pain eased. If the virus escalates - I could struggle to get another appointment with a consultant unless I go private for that too. Not sure whether private consultants will also cancel non-critical procedures.

I have an online food shop coming tomorrow. Will be interesting to see what arrives.

DS's lectures are now going to be all online. It looks like he may stay up there a few more days before coming home.

LOL just read that I wrote beer when I meant beef! It would be freudian except I don't drink alcohol.

DH was asked to self isolate yesterday after contact with an infected person a week before. It had taken that person (a foreigner) a while to get tested - but he was symptomatic - and DH had shaken his hands and been in close proximity to him. Staff at the company had even rung 111 to ask about the visitor's symptoms at the time but had been told not to worry. The 2 people that spent the most time with him - have been symptomatic this week but didn't self-isolate until the end of  Friday - even after they were told they had had contact earlier in the day so it's been bedlam. DH has also had contact with them and he has diabetes. DH is supposed to self-isolate at home - but he's non-symptomatic - and if he's a carrier we are already exposed. I needed some meds from the doctor yesterday - and rang them to ask if I was alright to still pick them up. They said ring 111.- I did and they said I was fine to continue as normal as I've not got a fever or persistent cough. Hence why everything feels too little too late.

At the moment we've told DS not to come home until next Friday when it will be 2 weeks from exposure. Who knows whether we will be okay by then or not or whether he will. I've sent him some money towards his missing shifts. DD wants me to take her to the gym shortly and for once has been in school all week. I've given her some gel to use between each machine - but said use theirs if it is available. I've managed to order some loo roll online - for delivery the first week of April. An earlier one I bought - said it could take until June to deliver so I cancelled it! I'm wondering whether for tomorrow's delivery - I should put a note up saying self-isolating leave food outside - yet technically I am still allowed to be out and about. With my leg as it is though it would be hard for me to sort the shopping on my own (or indeed take DD places). I've cancelled the meal out with friends me and DD were due to go to tonight. In limbo land. MIL is due next Sunday with BIL.

I read the changing policies at work yesterday, just so I could see what their ideas were about self-isolation, working at home etc.

The only good thing that should come out of this is people should be more aware and actually start to take more care, learn how to cook, start buying an extra few long life items for their cupboards.
Companies should have plans put into place in case of something happening in the future.
Do I believe it will happen? Doubtful.
Nothing changed after swineflu and other mass illnesses.

One of the recommended suggestions when having it or under self-isolation was to not share a bed!

There will be many people thinking they have it, but it turns out it's just a normal cough or cold. It's showing with members here who have anxiety and MH issues (really must find the proper term!)

That was so thoughtful of the church.

Glad your OH could pull in a bit of OT, it all helps. That coupled with the mortgage change is going to make next month a little better for you all. Just don't tell DD as she will use that to also justify her clothing allowance increase!

Do ask your GP for diaz, you need to be calm and not getting into a tiz with your MRI. I hope you can get it done privately and in a reasonable timeframe. Once you know what has happened, you can then find out what can be done to fix it and how long it will take.

Dinner sounds great, how about having a sofa dinner, can't risk moving your paintings.
-- Actually, a quick thought, next time you are in a £shop type place, look down the DIY section and see if they have any furniture / floor covers they are plastic and huge. Put one on the floor in your bedroom and pop your canvases on to let them dry.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

Hi Oh... and MF. Well we made it through another day. DH had a couple of hours sleep mid afternoon but so far we are all good. Been trying to distract myself by watching unforgettable... Have booked further deliveries. We were already on online deliveries before all this. DD even walked the dog today.

Ohsh.... I missed your post earlier - I apologise. I've done various diets successfully in the past but ended  up putting more weight on.

I hope you all manage to avoid it.
We are expected to work from home if we can't go into the office.  That's fine, but if all the schools and nurseries close, it will be so difficult trying to get schoolwork done, supervise the kids otherwise and also work.  On the other hand, it will be a dream to avoid all the roadworks going on at the moment!

Hi JWIL - It's all madness isn't it. Me and DH both have coughs but not continuous but worse today than yesterday. Does that mean we are okay or not? Who knows? You examine every 'symptom' and wonder.... I don't think other than the mortgage we will make any OPs this month. Probably best to build up a safety net with everything going on - and besides I've spent too much on food and art canvases! I can't get my pain under control either which isn't helping - but that is probably fuelled by anxiety so it is all a viscous circle. I'm scared and the government guidance is pretty useless. DD currently seem symptom free but none of us are sure what to do. Don't want to risk infecting others - but I think that we could all end up self isolating repeatedly over the coming months if this doesn't get under control.

I am going to try and paint later to see if that will take my mind off things. I bought some gorgeous copper, silver and gold and turquoise paint the other day.

Well painting (art) in the end controlled my pain. I painted with the window open - which also meant I coughed less. DD has become very anxious about it all - especially the fact that we don't have testing available to know if DH actually has it or not. She insisted she had a fever but it took ages to find a thermometer. After all that she was below the threshold. Debating whether to keep her off school or not.

It is so difficult to know what to do isn't it.  I'm having the dilemma with little miss who developed a cold over the weekend.  As she's chesty not dry cough, I'm sending her in (she's fine in herself), but it does make you wonder if you are doing the right thing.  I know realistically in all likelihood we haven't been exposed, so it must be all the more worrying for you.

I'm glad the painting is helping you.
