Sorry to hear your going through a rough patch. Horrible when our pets are ill, hope you have some answers soon. Take care of yourself as well. Not been a good start to the year for a lot of people.xx
Thanks. I'm hoping things will improve over the week 🤞

  • Woke up with a headache this morning 🙄 work was nice today with a lovely team on. I got thoroughly rained on on my way there though but luckily I was wearing my waterproof coat and had my brolly, my bag was soaking wet though.

The rest of me felt ok today and this morning it dawned on me that I had to carry B twice yesterday for quite a distance so that might have been why I was aching. She isn't a big dog and only weighs just over 10kgs but she is dead weight so I probably overdid it 😳 anyway I felt al OST back to normal today apart from my head which is also ok now.

I had a bit of a nightmare journey home though as I needed to nip into the shop for loo roll and bread on the way home and decided because it was chucking it down to catch the bus the rest of the way and I had to wait ages for the bus to arrive. I didn't get home until 9.30 and I left work at 8. I won't be doing that again in a hurry. I also got caught in the rain on the way home too 🙄 it's absolutely hammering down now.

B hadn't eaten anything when I got home but she will eat treats so I tried her with a bit of dried cat food and she ate that. DD1 then made her some scrambled egg and she ate that as well and it's stayed down. I tried her with her dog food and she wouldn't eat it 🤷‍♀️I will try her again tomorrow

Day off today and I had to go not town to pick up another prescription. I also got the rest of the shopping I needed.

I'm not sure what's going on with B now. I gave her dried cat food for breakfast and she ate it 🤷‍♀️ I bought her some different dried dog food ( Bakers complete ) for small dogs which she always loves but we don't buy because it's like junk food. I gave her a bit when I got home and she gobbled it down. I can only presume there is something wrong with the normal food that she has been eating all this time. I came home to an excited dog with a waggy tail so she has perked up since yesterday. It's a massive pain because I have a big bag of the dog food she won't eat 😟 and a 40 sachet box of pouches she won't touch either 🤷‍♀️I can hang on to them because they are sealed but the dry food is open. I'm going to try to take her for a short walk later to see how she gets on.

In other exciting news it was so windy today I hung my towels outside to dry 😀they were almost dry when I brought them in,they just need to dry around the edges . I'm just trying to decide what to have for tea tonight as I really don't feel like cooking 🥴

I often wonder if there’s any evidence in the so called bad for animals food theories.  On a FB bargain group I follow a woman posted about Felix being on offer and she was torn to shreds by posters saying how bad it is. Yet that was all my old boy would eat and he lived to be 21 🤷‍♀️ My dog is very fussy about what she eats, she eats a lot less than the cats. She’d happily eat cat food if she could get her paws on it.

B might eat the pouches another time, my dog goes on and off food. I think sometimes they just want a change. We wouldn’t want to eat the same food day in day out.

I think you mentioned there's a possibility of your dog starting with dementia, and if that's the case, could it be affecting her sense of taste or smell as can happen with humans? I couldn't find anything directly addressing this though there's a page mentioning dietary supplements for dog brain health (I don't know if it's sponsored or not).

If it's a matter of changing tastes, could her old food become acceptable with something she likes mixed in (though I think most animals would pick out the best bits, wouldn't they?)

Re the preference for cat food, I think there's less vegetable matter in it so perhaps that's why some dogs like it?

An assistant in Pets at Home told me dogs like cat food because it has taurine in it to make it more attractive to cats. I’ve also heard that it’s ok to let cats eat dog food but not the other way round. So much “advice” out there.

I'm not fussed about which food she has now to be honest, I'm just glad she is eating something. I will keep hold of the pouches just in case 😊

The vet mentioned it when I took her on Saturday. I've just done an online quiz and that said it's highly likely she has the early stages of dementia. Apparently it can effect their sense of taste and smell. I'm going to keep givng her the Bakers food as long as she will eat it.
