Hello OBL - I've just bought some CBD oil to try massaging into my hands when my arthritis is next playing up. My hands were x-rayed about 4 years ago & the pain diagnosed as definitely from osteoarthritis, so I know for a fact it's that, & it will be interesting to see if the CBD oil helps with pain & stiffness. I'm going to give it a fair trial & monitor how it goes.

Does ibuprofen gel work for you?  It does for my arthritis, although sometimes I wonder if it is the massaging that works rather than the gel.  my doctor told me ibuprofen gel yes, ibuprofen tablets no (dodgy stomach), paracetamol tablets yes.  Unfortunately I have found that ibuprofen actually works better for me than paracetamol.

Hi, I can't take painkillers apart from the occasional paracetamol for a headache
I also have arthritis in my hands and ibuprofen gel does nothing for me
I have a prescribed gel called Piroxicam which works wonders (for me)
Woke up a few weeks ago with a stiff neck, the sort where you can't turn your head at all and that usually takes days or weeks (or even a visit to the osteopath) to go away
Used the Piroxicam and fine half an hour later
I also find sugar flares my arthritis, luckily I don't have a sweet tooth at all but last week I had some chocolate and almost instant flare
Sympathy to all in pain, it is so draining xx

  • Yes that is true @Paspatur, sugar is a known inflammatory.

  • Sorry to read about your pain OBL. Been catching up.

Wondered if you had heard about a charity called the Cinnamon Trust. With you mentioning finding dogs to walk once your B has gone reminded me of them. I volunteered with them in my early 20's. Basically you walk people's dogs who can no longer do so. Often elderly folks. I met a couple of lovely older ladies and walked their dogs and sometimes stayed for a cuppa and chat. One of the ladies was fascinating, she was born in 1914 and her earliest memory was of her dad coming home on leave from the western front in 1917. Unfortunately he didn't make it home at the end of the war.

Anyway, maybe keep them in mind when you are dogless and looking for a canine walking companion without the outlay.

Our energy company wanted to increase our dd to over £400. I can set it online, atm it is at £210, and everything they produce a bill I can reduce it further 🙄 our boiler is still turned off for the heating, it's so mild it hasn't been needed. I have also reduced the temperature on the boiler and adjusted the room thermostats on the radiators in preparation too.

Sorry that you’re having so much trouble with pain. Hope it eases soon for you 👍
Dds table sounds a lovely project.
    January spends - £587.58
  • Sorry to hear you are having a bad time with pain. Wonder if your mattress and/or pillow makes it worse in the morning? Just a thought. Also have you tried one of those heated wheat packs? It always helps mine.
    Coffee table sounds a bargain

    Have a good day. x
I've got a Emma mattress that my DD gave me months ago and it's not been a problem before, I've just bought new pillows becausecmy neck was aching and I'm kept waking up in the night to find my head wasn't supported. The new pillow is very supportive and I initially felt a lot better after sleeping on it. I also noticed that my shoulders were always very tense when I was in bed but with the new pillow that has stopped. I'm will see how it goes with this pillow and then maybe try something else. I do have a wheat bag that heats up which I do normally use,I forgot all about it at the time but will make sure I use it next time now you've reminded me 😊

I'm taking CBD oil internally in the form of gummies. I've used it before but not for massage,I stopped using it because of the cost and I wasn't sure if it was doing anything, I also was using the oil under my tongue and it was irritating my mouth so I had to stop,The gummies seem ok but not noticed any difference yet

I use ibuprofen gel when the pain isn't too severe but sometimes if it's really bad it doesn't work, I can take ibuprofen tablets but try not to if I can help it 😊

I've not heard of Piroxicam but it sounds really good. I'm speaking to a GP on the 18th so I'm going to ask about different painkillers then.
I am a sugar fiend and I lost count of the times I have tried to cut it out of my diet but I never succeed. I have spent the last couple of years using a sucralose based sweetener instead (Splenda) but I became aware that I was using it a lot due to the amount of hot drinks I have in a day. I stopped using it at the end of September and swapped back to sugar but I'm using much less than normal and I'm cutting in down literally by a few grains at a time to try and stop it altogether, I accidentally put too much in my tea the other day and it tasted like syrup 🤢I had to chuck it away. I am wondering if my current problems might be either withdrawal from the sweetener or because I've gone back to sugar, in a way that would be good because it means I can get better 😀
