  • It's a damp miserable day here but that didn't stop B wanting to go to the fields this morning for her walk,I let her choose the route and she hasn't wanted to to go up there for a while but this week she has picked it twice. She did seem a bit more energetic than normal and it was a lovely walk with no rain 🎉🎉🎉

I have done all my house stuff for the day and now have the afternoon free to read or knit depending on what I fancy. DD has been gone all day on a walk up on the moors so I've had the place to myself, she made brownies yesterday for their coffee break and left one for me,they were soooooo good, she will definitely have to make some more and I'm hoping she will bring some back 😀🤞🤞

I’m glad the doctor is trying to get to the bottom of your problems but hoping it isn’t what your mum has 🤞 Is it hereditary? I put my tree up today but I’m not really feeling very festive at the moment.

Can understand your reservations about steroids, @OBL. My Mum had to take them - not for the same condition - she had myaesthenia gravis. There were both plus points & negatives. She became diabetic, which her neurologist said was hastened by having to take steroids every other day. But on the other hand, taking steroids enabled her to carry pretty much normally. They helped with muscles that supported her breathing & generally made her feel a lot less droopy. I can remember being out with her one day & she wasn't right at all, very weak & floppy. Then she suddenly announced shed forgotten to take her steroid. Seeing her at close quarters with & without the medication was a bit of an eye-opener for me. She was still working into her early 80s (musician) & she couldn't have done this or much physical activity at all without steroid medication. The drug didn't cause weight gain, something I'd always thought happened with steroid use.
So while I don't know nearly enough to advocate for or against them - I don't have any medical background - I do know that without them, my Mum's life would have been quite a lot more limited.
Anyway, OBL, hoping it's not the condition you mentioned.
Your dog walk sounded lovely today. Love how B chooses where to go!

Hi OBL - glad to hear about the phased return to work. I can’t remember if you said you were with unison on here or not but if you are then as I’m sure you will know they can provide help w return to work negotiations. I had a phased return to work but also a superior who was really against me. It was tough but was quite proud of myself once I was back to my normal shift patterns. But people need support to get there - how has work been with you up until now? Hope you get some relief from this pain!!

Thanks SA, it can be genetic they think but I'm not sure how solid the research is on that. It normally only effects people over 50 with most being in their 70s and more women than men are effected too ( which makes me wonder if it's hormone related, but I don't suppose we will ever know due to the medical establishments view of the menopause ) it can burn itself out after a while but normally needs steroids to treat it . My poor mum got it when she was in her early 60s and was put on steroids but they left her on a night dose for too long which has damaged her bones, her body is now also dependent on the steroids so she can't stop taking them because it makes her really ill. When I got Fibromyalgia she was worried sick I had the same thing as her and always makes me promise I will never take steroids for anything. I won't be able to tell her if that's what I've got because she will think it's her fault

They are a double edged sword Foxgloves but they work incredibly well when they are needed. I have made up my mind that if I need them I will be trying them because they could be my gateway to living a more normal life. Hopefully it's not PMR and I won't need them but we will see
My dog walk with B was lovely and I like letting her choose her route, it's funny how she decides from day to day where she wants to go. I can't do it on the before work walks which somethings causes a problem of she disagrees with my route but on my days off I just let her take me for a wander 😊
