I’ve been on those antibiotics that make you feel sick, not pleasant. I hope you start to feel better soon. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for B x

  • Thanks SA, I think the antibiotics are making me feel worse🤢B ate her tea tonight and was quite happy to go for her evening walk,I'm wondering if she's got a urine infection, I might try to get a sample in the morning when I let her out

OBL - Some antibiotics can definitely cause nausea. I was once prescribed a course of strong anti-bios for a horrible infected horsefly bite, which had started turning my leg black. Ewww! Obviously I had to last the full course of tablets to get that sorted, but my goodness, they did make me feel sick. I was really glad when I'd finished them!

    P. S Re dog..... my first can used to suffer from bad bouts of cystitis & we always new straight away when he needed a vet appointment because he'd start weeing indoors. It's a possibility.

Yuck, hate horseflies 😡 I took them later today with some food so that was better
The vet thinks Betty has pancreatitis so has given her an interim treatment until we know how severe it is ,it's causes dehydration so dogs drink more so that's possibly why she has had a few accidents, I'm going to try and get a sample just in case she is unfortunate enough to have a urine infection at the same time 🙁

  • What a day
I took B to the vets and she couldn't do her vaccinations because she has a temperature. The vet said she was very tender round her tummy so I explained that this had happened before and she had had blood tests that came back normal, the vet went to check which bloods they did and they had done everything except the one for pancreatitis,I asked her to repeat the bloods today and the pancreatitis one came back as abnormal, she is also low on platelets so is anaemic too, she's lost weight as well 🙁 so adding this all up the vet thinks likely to be Pancreatitis, she phoned me to let me know and to say they wanted to send the blood off to be further tested as their machine only tells them if it's normal or not,it doesn't tell them the levels of enzymes in the blood which tells you how severe it is.The low platelets could point to internal bleeding from either inflammation in her tummy or elsewhere or a possible rumour of some sort or just that she isn't absorbing her food properly because of the pancreatitis. We should know in about a weeks time and then be able to plan the next steps, she can have a scan to check for tumours and to see if her pancreas is inflamed but the vet said to wait for the bloods to come back first.
Treatment is supportive so a special low-fat diet with added interventions as and when needed the best of these is anti nausea and painkilling drugs the worst is hospital admission with drugs and iv fluids.
Ive found a low fat brand of food that you can get on a subscription service that's tailor made for you dogs particular diet and they do a low fat one for dogs with her problem. I've ordered one lot because there was 60%off the first bag, then it costs £22 a month and you can cancel at any time
So I am now £377 down on my house fund. I should be able to claim some of it back from insurance if they don't weasel their way out of it again. I toyed with the idea of paying for it from the emergency fund but decided that seeing as I've got the extra money in the house fund I would rather use that than dip into my EF

How worrying about B, I hope the vets can get to the bottom of it soon and get some treatment started.  Is the subscription service Tails? I tried that one with my dog and she wasn’t keen.

Yes it is Tails, why do you think she wasn't keen, did you think it was good value for money otherwise and was it easy to cancel ,B is a bit of a gannet normally and I just buy her whatever is on offer, lately that's been iams for senior dogs. The first bag is only costing me £3ish so I won't be too out of pocket if she refuses to eat it,she also has to have dried food because wet food upsets her tummy
Im not sure what to feed her over the next few days, I might have to go and buy some chicken 😳

  • Forgot to add that A bit me for the first time today since he has been back😟it wasn't his fault though,DD1 popped round with the baby and he made a bee line for the cat so after letting him gently stroke the cat for a minute I could see he was getting annoyed by the attention so picked him up to move him out of reach and he bit me on the hand, not seriously but a warning. He got sooo stressed out while the baby was here so I'm going to have to be careful when I babysit, the baby was being as gentle as a 13 month old can be but wouldn't leave the cat alone so not good for the cat
DD actually brought the little one round so he could be reacquainted with me and my house,he has only seen me twice since March so doesn't really know who I am🙀 DD didn't just want to drop him off next week without him meeting me which is fair enough. He was really funny and we got on like a house on fire, I start to enjoy them at this age when you can play with them. He is going to wear me out though because he doesn't stop and is into everything, his brother would leave things alone if you told him to but the little one is a different kettle of fish, he is a lot more cuddly than his older brother though and really snuggles in when he's on your lap 😍😍

My dog originally loved the Tails food (as did my cat) but after a while kept turning her nose up at it. I had the trial bag then the next one but she just stopped eating it. I think it was because it was so plain and samey. I then trialled the Butternut Box fresh food which goes in your freezer but I didn't have room for it in the freezer and she turned her nose up at that after a few bags. To be honest she just prefers Bakers but recently I've seen some bad reports about it causing cancer so thinking about changing again. She likes Lily's Kitchen dried food but it's quite expensive. I know dog owners who rate Harringtons which is good value. Plain chicken or fish would do B good though.
