My journey to a debt free life

Your trip to town sounds AWFUL OBL 😱. I'm definitely going to avoid my town centre. There's a Mr M and a Mr T we can drive to and on my way home from school is a C00p, so I'm going to try my luck there. We have a small chemist in our local shops where we usually pick up prescriptions.
It all feels a bit apocalyptic doesn't it? 😟
It's going to feel weird at school being socially distant with the children as they like to hug us and hold our hands normally. We'll need to try and keep the children apart too and I'm not sure how the school are stage managing that, so I'll be interested to find out next week. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

Sun_Addict said:Your trip to Boots sounds dire. I would imagine by the very nature of their existence the druggies would be a hotbed for the virus.
I wonder if this tsunami of patients we are expecting will be the fallout from last weekend's surge of people swarming on the parks and beauty spots treating it like a bank holiday?
I don't envy your job at the best of times but right now it must be so frightening. You're doing a brilliant job, let's hope frontline NHS staff get the recognition they deserve at the end of all this.
I saw people in the park today passing each other quite closely on the path when they could have easily stepped onto the grass to avoid each other 😡😱. I gave everyone a wide berth and stayed on the grass 😏.
You are incredibly brave OBL 👏Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

There are just too many people who still seem to have zero concept of social distancing. I think initially, it would have helped a lot if a phrase had been chosen which everyone would understand - such as '2m apart rule' or something like that, as 'social distancing' wasn't a phrase with which most of us would have been familiar. However, now it's been used so often (& explained) that everyone knows what is is, but some are still of the view that their circumstances or actions are different from everyone else's. ie that person reaching across to get to the cheese rather than waiting a few seconds....she probably thought 'it's only just here, it won't be a problem if I just reach & get it' but of course an infected person could have coughed on her. It's strange how some people just don't engage with the rules in what is such a deeply worrying & unprecedented situation, isn't it?
OBL - I do hope all those people swanning off on a jolly to the West Country haven't been responsible for starting a cluster of cases down in your neck of the woods. It's interesting hearing from you about all the hospital preparations, etc, but I still hope you won't need to use too many of them. Stay as safe as you can,

I don't envy you trying to keep children apart, is it even possible 😳 and keeping the children from getting too close to the adults as well, they might only have mild symptoms if they get the virus but they are a hotbed of infection and spread illnesses like nobodies business putting the adults at risk, that's partly why my ward is being so careful because the kids are usually the ones that spread illness aroundOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8944 -

I hope we don't get a surge of cases too, there was a broadcast sent out on FB today from the chief of Devon and Cornwall police telling people who don't live here to stay away in their own homes, they think there is going to be another influx because of the Easter holidays, there are lots of second homes here so people just think it's ok to travel here because they are still in their own home, they don't stop to think that our infrastructure isn't built to cope with extra numbers 😟

Escaping to a rural 2nd home is an advantage only available to the wealthy. It has ever been thus. Right back to the Black Death in the 14th century..... (big topic of study at Uni), the aristocracy fled to their rural estates & everyone else stayed put because of course they didn't have a 2nd home, so had no choice. There are always more choices available to the most affluent. The problem is that small picturesque places full of 2nd homes (which prices out the locals for a start, esp the young) don't have the infrastructure to deal with any related surge in pandemic spread. I don't live in a holiday area but I do live in an old historic small market town. Our health services would be utterly overwhelmed with an influx of second-homers at such a critical time.
Take care, OBL. I'm glad you have your chickens. Our milk delivery service emailed yesterday to say 'No new egg customers' as there is a national egg shortage.
