My journey to a debt free life

Morning OBL,
Glad you had such a nice birthday. What a good idea to use your birthday money for riding.
I'm with you on the annoying weight creep-back. I think I've mentioned before that I lost loads of weight between 2011 & 2013 (6 stones in total) and had intended to lose another stone. However, since then, I've just kept cycling the same 2 stones back on & off, & have lost count how many times I've gained & lost them! It's infuriating! Much harder to lose weight now I'm a 'woman of a certain age' - I am currently 25lbs above the lowest I got down to. I do well on healthy meals but am a terrible nibbler. And in the same way as silly little frittery spends add up, so do naughty bits of picking at nuts, seeds, crisps, crackers, cheese, etc. I'm planning an angelic 4 days, then will brave the scales again. If I've shifted even another 1lb, it'll be less than I deserve.
Agree with you that eating healthily does wonders for general vitality/energy levels. Nothing flattens out my energy more than a few days of too much junky carbohydrate & sugary stuff. I baked cheese oatcakes yesterday & they are proving a nice sustaining snack & only 50 calories. Just got to make sure I don't keep putting my naughty little hand in the jar.......
I'm sorting the patio today too, but mostly a massive sweep will do it, I think.

Thanks Foxgloves, the weight issue is really annoying isn't it, i have lost and gained weight so many times over the years but I can never keep it off,I need to go to the meeting to be held accountable and I cant afford to go now plus they are always on when I'm at work,
I think I might start putting my weight in my signature on here as that might motivate me to eat healthier food,I've also worked out this week that I can't moderate treats so I need to abstain completely,I am not buying any cakes or biscuits to have in the house from now on,I'm allowing myself those Soreen mini banana loafs and then just fruit and yogurt for dessert,I might make a healthy dessert from my slimming world books now and then but I need to get my body out of the habit of mindlessly consuming chocolate, cakes and biscuits
I buy them and tell myself I will have one a day but I don't I have two or three and then have to buy more this is making me put weight on and waste money that could be used for other things, I'm not going to be popping into costa every time I go into town either as that is a massive waste of money and calories
Right I need to get off my butt now as the patio won't get cleared otherwise, mind you the sky is looking very black :eek:Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8941 -
Your birthday sounded like a lovely day OBL and I'm glad you managed a ride this morning
.
Chocolate and sugar generally can be hard to quit, but it does make your more tired and give you mood swings. It doesn't stop me being hungry either in fact I'm convinced that it makes me even more hungry! I'm an all or nothing person so I'm only allowed chocolate, cake, or sugary desserts on special occasions. Fruit and natural yoghurt are the best desserts I think.
I hope your rain holds off long enough to do your garden jobs. Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

The suns come back out now so I've managed to do loads :j I don't like natural yogurt but will eat others,I buy the dairy free ones from Tesco and they are quite yummy ,I am a complete chocoholic and could never give it up completely but I'm determined to only have it occasionally instead of every day,I sometimes eat two or three bars of chocolate a day,I'm surprised I'm not bigger than I am really,I must say I do seem to be able to get away with eating chocolate without it making too much difference but I also like cake and biscuits and it's that that causes me a problemOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8941 -
You sound so like me with food. I am doing weight watchers online and I joined the ww thread in the health bit on here which has helped.
I have never been a fan of natural yoghurt, but have recently been having it with a teaspoon of maple syrup and a sliced banana and its quite nice. Makes a good one point breakfast or dessert.Debt free Feb 2021 🎉0 -
Yeo natural yoghurt is lovely, but I only have it for a treat as it's a bit pricey. It's lovely with berries in

No don't like it as my DGS has just learned to say:rotfl:Original Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8941 -
:eek:My tumble dryer has just blown up:eek: DD went in the kitchen and said there was a funky smell but I had used the eco egg for the first time on my washing so thought it might be that, went to investigate to find a strong smell of burnt motor
I turned it off and hung my towels on the clothes horse, then went to look at the ARGOOOS site to see how much a replacement would be,I found a reasonable one and was just deciding to buy it when I started to think do I actually need one,I only dry my bedding and towels in there so it seemed a waste to spend £179 on something just to do that, DD says she can live without a dryer so we decided to wait and see how we get on without one
I then thought I would just test it to see if it was actually smelling of burning as by this time it smelled ok, so I out the dog throws in there and pressed the button and it went bang, so definitely not working now,the kitchen stunk of burning appliance
I've just booked a bulky waste collection from my local council to come and take it away next week, it's really old and so loud you can hear it out in the street so was on its last legs,I've been waiting for it to break for ages but dreading it too, my first instinct was to buy another one and even though I've got the money in the good old emergency fund I find I don't want to spend it unless I really have to so I'm going to wait
We are hopefully going to be getting some nice sunny weather soon ( PLEASE WHOEVER IS IN CHARGE :A ) so I can peg stuff out,I don't have any clothes that can be tumble dried and my work uniforms usually dry overnight on the clothes horse in the spare room. DD also doesn't have any clothes that can be tumble dried so she won't miss it either
My friend at work hangs her duvets over her doors when she is out at work and they normally dry by the time she gets back so I will try this,I have two clothes horses in the spare room and my washing line,I think it will be fine at least until the end of the summer, so we're accidentally doing a no tumble dryer challenge this year
In other laundry related news I used the eco egg for the first time today,I used it with my towels and I must say I am impressed at how they came out the machine, for a start there were suds in the machine which I didn't expect but found strangely reassuring:rotfl: and the washing smells clean, I got one with a scent but you can get fragrance free, it sort of smells like swimming pools but in a nice way,I also put a dish cloth in with the towels and it smelled cleaner than they normally do and some stains that were there previously had gone, the only thing I can't comment on yet is the lack of fabric conditioner, apparently you don't need it,I don't wash my towels with fabric conditioner any way so will have to wait until I wash some clothes before I make my mind up
The lovely thing that happened today was that my lovely friend who I went to see for coffee offered me their TV, her husband just bought a new TV and they want to get rid of the old one ASAP because it's in the way, it's got nothing wrong with it he just wanted one with a bigger screen, it's a 40" flat screen in excellent condition and they wanted to give it to me for nothing:eek:I said yes please I would love it but I'm not taking it without giving them some money so they said £50:eek: I did tell them they could sell it for more than that but they said no if you want it it's yours,I am gobsmacked that they would do that
So today I lost my dryer but gained a TV so not a bad day all things considered
I mentioned yesterday I think that I'm going to put my weight in my signature to keep me accountable while I lose weight,I think it will really spur me on,I love updating my signature when my payments have gone out or I've put savings away, and I want to be able to see it going down so I'm going to start doing that from today,I weighed myself on Monday this week but my normal weigh day will be Saturday, this is because I meet my mum on some Saturdays so will have a treat and I don't want that to affect my weigh in
Right I think that's all my news for today,I'm off to bed in a minute because I've got DGS again tomorrow so need to get to bed o I won't wake up in timeOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8941 -
Today is nice and chilled so far,I have got DGS again today but he wanted to go for a nap at 9.30,he actually took himself upstairs with his bunny,I came back down and promptly fell alseep too but was just rudely awoken by the chickens going crazy, I thought there was a fox but there was a very large Crow in the garden, it was huge,I'm not sure what it was after but there are mealworms in a tray on the bird feeder so maybe that
We have them living in the trees all around but don't usually see them down in the garden
I'm planning on taking DGS for a walk down to the park later with a stop off at the shop because I forgot to get bread yesterday, apart from that I'm not doing much at all today, the house needs hoovering but I will do that when DGS goes home after teaOriginal Debt Owed Jan 18 = £17,630 Paid To Date = £6,736 Owed = £10,8941 -
Not buying a tumbler sounds like a good decision :money: I think I'd try and manage without if ours broke. I wish we could manage without a freezer but I'm not sure that would work for long :rotfl:.
Great news on a very cheap tv too :T.Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

My dryer broke last year. But I am a cleaner so have to wash all my cleaning cloths every night and get them dry, so for me it is very much a necessary item. Otherwise I could probably cope without out it now the kids are older.Debt free Feb 2021 🎉0
