What an awful day. Hope you manage to get a duvet for a reasonable price. x

It sounds like the worst sort of day at work. :(
Well done on sprouting the butternut squash seeds: I don't know how well they pollinate but I would have said you were in with a good chance of baby butternut squashes in a few months.

It was definitely a day I would like to forget :(

I've been told it depends on whether the seeds are an F1 hybrid as to whether they will grow any fruit, I do have a vague memory of growing some pumpkins from seeds saved from a shop bought pumpkin when we had our allotment but I might be mistaken, I will wait and see, it's exciting any way waiting to see if they grow anything,I do love planting squash and pumpkin seeds though as they sprout really quickly and turn into lovely chunky plants that always look so healthy:)

I think DD will go to Wilkos as that is where she got this one I think, they are cheap and do the job, my duvet is from there and it's lovely, we always buy one filled with fibre and not feathers because the feathers aren't animal friendly and they make me sneeze

It's a bit grey and miserable here today so I'm not sure what I'm going to be doing yet,I do want to get out in the garden but if it rains that won't be happening, it still feels fairly warm though so that's a bonus
I am doing my banking in a bit because I want to transfer the savings over before I end up spending them

Poor you and poor DD, what a day . Was the duvet too big for the washing machine? I've washed singles before but not doubles. I noticed yesterday that Mr T were doing a discount on bedding.

We had a grey misty day most of yesterday until late afternoon, but it's sunny today so our sun may head your way later.

It's a good idea to save your earnings before you spend them. I sent all of my wages to savings the other day because we used to manage without them so I don't want to fritter them away, as we tend to cut our coat according to our cloth. If I convince myself that I'm poor then I'll live frugally and our savings can grow :D. Anyway we are poor compared to a lot of families. I feel like I've had such an insecure life since leaving home due to being poor, and I'm sick to death of it so I'm finally taking control of my finances and control of my life. I'd rather live a frugal life and have a savings buffer than spend more and worry about money all the time.

If you can't get in the garden today how about some more de-cluttering? Or have you de-cluttered the house to death now? :rotfl:

I've moved my money around and edited my signature,I've now got £1,500 in my emergency fund but it's not all for emergencies
I have decided to have my downstairs carpet replaced because it's beyond redemption now after living with the dog who is actually very but sometimes gets muddy feet and manages to run in before I can clean them and a cat who vomits everyday,I have a really good carpet cleaner but there is only so much a carpet cleaner can do
I'm going to replace it with laminate flooring which I did have before but had taken up because it wasn't fitted properly
I've found a local company who will fit it and they do really good deals, I'm also going to get them to carpet the stairs and landing mainly because this carpet is ripped around the doorways from when the cat was a kitten and he scratched it all up in the corners, he doesn't do that anymore so it should be ok

So £1000 of the money in my emergency fund is not to be touched as that is strictly for emergencies then the £ 500 that is also in there is my flooring fund and I reckon I'm about halfway there to roughly how much it will cost,I'm going to message the company with some measurements for a rough estimate as I don't want to get them round to measure until I'm almost ready to proceed
I was going to open another savings account but I decided I would get too confused and I know I'm disciplined enough now not to touch that £1000 as I have a strong aversion to actually spending it on anything

While I'm saving up for the flooring I'm going to spend the time decorating the downstairs, it's all painted walls so won't cost much but it needs redoing as I haven't touched it for several years due to having no money, now I'm budgeting properly I can budget money for the paint
I am going to try to finish the bathroom painting and floor first though as that has been waiting for sooooooo long now it's ridiculous, that is going to be done as soon as DD has handed in her last two pieces of work for uni, I need to sand it all and the noise is too much for her to concentrate so it will have to wait until the end of next week,it's only a few days work though so won't take long once I get my backside into gear

This might sound like a small thing but the state of the carpets isn't helping my mental state as I do like a nice clean and tidy house and while I can clean and tidy to my hearts content I still have to live with the messy flooring and it's definitely not helping things, it will also be much easier to keep clean once it's done which means I will have more time to do more important things like sewing or reading etc

I don't currently feel like doing any of this but I'm going to drag myself off the settee and make myself do it because I think it will do me good, the house will benefit which in turn will make me feel better .......I just need to make that start

Yes it was totally our fault Hairy as it was a double duvet and barely fit,DD looked it up online and was told it was ok to put a double duvet in an 8kg drum,I was worried it would break the machine, but she promised to buy me a new one if it did:D she looked up the price for cleaning the duvet and it was more than the duvet actually cost, so I took a chance  it wasn't until afterwards that she mentioned she had looked at having it dry cleaned and not washed at our local launderette which is half the price:eek: so I could have taken it there today

I love checking my bank account now and moving my money into my savings,I now have almost £2000 in savings which would have been impossible before I started my DMP,I know it's all earmarked but before I still had these things to possibly pay for but no money to do it, the only thing that doesn't stress me out nowadays is my money because I know where it all goes and what I'm doing with it ,I like trying to be frugal now and hate having to spend my hard earned cash :rotfl:

I haven't finished my decluttering yet because I havent really being doing much of anything apart from the bare essentials and working,so I still have plenty to declutter :rotfl:

It's still grey here but not actually raining so I think I'll go and make a start in the garden and see how it goes,I need to get off the settee or I will end up here all day feeling sorry for myself

  • Replacing stained carpet with laminate is a really good idea, as cat sick and muddy paws won't ruin it and it will be much easier to keep clean. It will make you feel better too :). Painting will also give your mood a lift and is a simple and relatively cheap way of giving the house a face lift.

It's very good that we don't have to feel stressed about money because that's a really major thing and has such an impact upon our lives. There are many many things we can't control, but at least our spending doesn't have to be one of them :T.

    Enjoy your gardening :).

Just make a gentle start in the garden, OBL, & you'll probably find, like I do, that one job leads to another & before you know it you've managed to knock 3 or 4 annoying little tasks off the list. It was murky here first thing, too, but is brightening up now. I am defo heading out there this afternoon to get a few tasks crossed off the list. Sometimes I just pick one small area & get it done to a good standard, rather than trying to weed the whole lot, knackering myself out completely & not doing it that well.
The fresh air will be good for you anyway & you'll feel more pleased with yourself than if you sat indoors.
