  • I once read that you get cold sores more if you are run down and that it is not actually to do with cracked lips as a lot of people think. Not sure if its true or not. Although thinking about it, the only time I ever had a cold sore was when I had really bad pneumonia, so obviously I was pretty run down then.

There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow, Shining at the End of Every Day!

  • I forgot to post about this earlier but I was listening to my minimilist podcast today and they said something that really resonated with me,the one I listened to today was about debt and someone asked if he should get rid of his credit cards now he had paid off his debt as he was worried it would damage hi credit rating
They said their view is that a credit ratings aren't credit ratings at all,it's a debt rating and all it does is tell companies about your ability to handle further debt
They also said that credit cards are not credit cards they are debt cards that you use when you don't have the funds available to buy something,I really wish I had discovered this podcast when it first aired because I might not have run up as much debt as I did,

The rest of today was spent finishing cleaning downstairs and doing a load of washing, it was then tea time so I cooked tea before we took the dog out for her evening walk
I haven't got round to cleaning upstairs as I'm too tired and don't feel great, the water infection symptoms have settled down again so that's good, but I also have a cold sore and I've had Neuralgia in my face since yesterday,I get Neuralgia anyway but this seems to be being triggered by the cold sore,I had this last year too and it was quite painful for a while, every winter no matter what I do I get chapped lips and for the last two years I've developed a cold sore where my lip is chapped,I've bought so many lip balms but they don't seem to stop me getting chapped lips in the first place,I've got Zovirax cream for the cold sore so it should be gone soon but in the mean time my face is throbbing, plus next doors kids have been running wild and screaming all evening so I can't even sit in peace

I agree about them being debt cards and I don't feel I could ever be trusted with one again .

You probably are run down, your face must be very painful, poor you :(. We have children next door who scream all the time too and the mother yells all the time  but luckily our hall is next to their hall so we don't really hear them in the bedroom or living room. I hope your cold sore gets better soon.

I've decided that I need to eat more fruit and veg as I've only been having two most days instead of five. Since our oven stopped working I've been cooking on the hob and our meals are becoming healthier as I'm chucking loads of frozen veg in the pan, so I'm hoping the extra vitamins will stop me from catching continual head colds!

OBL - Yes, very true that we are kind of conditioned to think of the word 'credit' as good & 'debt' as bad. I look at adverts for things like sofas, which say 'Interest ftee credit' & I think 'No, that should say 'interest free debt'". Not 'Spread the payment over 36 months', but '36 months of extra debt will get you this sofa'. I've made use of interest free credit in the past, of course I have, but 'Interest free debt' tells it like it is. I'd like a new sofa, actually, but will save for one this time, starting before our existing one gets too tatty - after all, they can easily be covered up with a nice throw, can't they?
Sorry to hear about coldsore. My understanding of them is that the virus can lay dormant, then jump out in the cold weather when you are feeling run down or have been poorly. Horrible things.

Exactly, interest free debt is more realistic,I had my sofas on interest free credit and remember thinking how well off I would be when I wasn't paying for them anymore, little did I know that that was just the start of my debt journey
As for the cold sore the the virus does indeed lie dormant and erupt when you are run down, I got this particular cold sore for the first time after our cat sneezed on my face and covered me in cat snot:eek: I hadn't had one before that happened :(

I think with me what happens is I always get run down in January and it coincides with the chapped lips which can also be a symptom of being run down and that's probably why the lip balms on their own don't work,I think working like I do where for possibly three days a week I get up in the dark work for 12 hours in a building with not a lot of access to outside light and home in the dark doesn't help
I had started to eat more fruit before Christmas but this had tailed off over Christmas,so I'm now back on my fruit and veg plus a multivitamin and flaxseed tablets everyday, hopefully this will help:)

Hi Hairy,I think I am a bit run down even though I actually feel quite energetic for this time of year, last January I was ill with one cold after another and that hasn't happened this year,I'm back on my fruit and veg from this week so hopefully that will help
The Neuralgia in my face is something I've had for a few years now but it had calmed down a bit recent,y,it only takes one little thing to trigger it off though,it didn't help going to the hairdressers because she rubbed my temples when she was washing my hair and that will trigger it off
The doctor I saw told me that can do an operation to sever the nerve in my temple to stop it hurting but the possible risks were facial paralysis or the pain actually being made worse, I reckon I could cope with paralysis but if this pain got worse I wouldn't be able to live with it,they call this condition the suicide headache because it's drives some people to take desperate measures:eek:

  • Up fairly early for me this morning and I'm ready to go off into town for a shopping trip,I've just got to take the dog out and I'm good to go

Annoyingly my face is hurting again today all the way from my temple down under my eye the side of my nose under my nose across my top lip and down the side into the corner of my mouth,I've taken my painkillers and I'm hoping it will go away at some point otherwise today is going to be a challenge,my face also feels like I've been stung by nettles, this is the joy of nerve pain:mad:

I'm still going shopping though as I refuse to be beaten :rotfl: DD is coming with me and we are going for lunch, she is really struggling with the no spend year and has found it really hard so far,I've suggested she concentrates on having NSDs instead as it's more realistic :)

The facial pain sounds horrible, I hope you get some relief soon.

Fab news about the refund and the squash, by the way!

  • Just on the subject of being run down more in the winter. Do you take Vitamin D3? We all need extra especially in the winter when we don't get any sun. I take loads extra as I have Osteoporosis, but in the winter we need even more. The best ones are the yellow gel type capsules. I get mind from Natures Best and they are very good.

  • Your facial pain sounds awful. I don't think I'd want to risk it getting worse with an operation. I hope it feels better soon. Can you ask the hairdresser not to massage your temples?

I'm not surpised DD is finding a no spend year difficult. I hate to say it but buying things always cheers me up :o. I try to cheer myself up in other ways but sometimes I desperately get the urge to spend. Which is why I use my survey money for my personal spends. DD may not be like me but it can be a bit miserable being super frugal over a long period of time and never treating yourself to anything. I think NSDs are more realistic and achievable and will still save a lot of money for DD over the year.
