Glad that things are on the up for you HB. I read on another thread that 'no' is a complete sentence, no need for explanation.

I've done the dailies, sorted two appts, taken the dogs for a long walk and hoovered through the house. I'm going to pop into town next for some things I can't buy cheaply locally and to pay a cheque in the bank.

Thanks Piggers and Jazee. Basically The Rule this month is that absolutely nothing is going in the diary. If it was there on 31 January I'll honour it, but anything and everything else - No.

Hope Pixie recovers from the splat and your redudnacy negotiations go smoothly and profitably Jazee.
    Better is good enough.
  • Sent DH on the school run; I am exhausted (had a snooze earlier) and freezing cold. Hope I'm not coming down with anything. Have lovely evenings all xx

Devil Cat is still with us. We've tweaked his medication the last possible tweak and OH now wakes up at 5.30 am to dose him up every morning, and they then go back to sleep together. Kelpie had his first training session yesterday with a new-to-me trainer and absolutely loved it which is a huge relief after months of concern. He's beginning to cope with going deaf and I've found a safe place to let him off lead where I can practice with him, so that's huge progress.
Wow, Devil Cat is truly amazing - he must really and truly still want to be here. Fantastic!
I'm pleased that Kelpie likes his new trainer; is he learning any signals? I've looked after a couple of hard-of-hearing dogs, and was told to give them hand signals as well as verbal commands.

I may have an overnight guest on Tuesday; the booking only came up last night, but I've spoken with the owner and we have our Meet'n'Greet visit on Sunday. They're having work done in the house, and would prefer their little Yorkie be safely away with a minder than under the workmens' feet with the possibility of being inadvertently let out of the front door.

Today has been busy; I had to wait for an email with the contact details for the Yorkie-owner, then call her; then a load of errands in town:
    • Collect medication from S/Drug
    • Post birthday card for Mr LW's sister (I've never met the woman, but I still had to design and make her card! :D )
    • Buy dimmable LED light bulbs for bedside lamps
    • Visit F&V market
    • Visit bank to change PIN on my new debit card
    • Visit H&B to buy sesame seeds *this was abortive - they didn't have any large packets, only piddlin' little ones that work out very expensive per ounce or per 100g or whatever it is these days; I'm not that desperate, so decided to leave it.
    • Visit Moribunds for a tonne of shopping *this was expensive, as Mr LW needed a new pack of razor blades, which, for the amount they cost, ought to be gold-plated
    Since getting home I have:
    • Put the shopping away (this involved some advanced-level Fridge Tetris)
    • Put a WM load onto A-frames over the bath
    • Put the dried banana slices out of the dehydrator into a storage jar
    • Done the finance spreadsheets up to date with today's purchases
    • Put a tonne of recycling of various sorts into the shed (where it lives til bin day)
    • Filled up the bird feeder yet again and also refilled their water bowl
    • Put the money for Mr LW's Saturday newspaper in a cash bag - I do this each week as a means of keeping the amount of small change we have to a sensible level
Is it time for a cuppa yet? :o

One big fat lip, a busted nose, 2 bruised and grazed knees, a torn frenulum and a cracked tooth.. because a little treasure at school was spinning her around by her arm and she fell.. The child has been spoken too and they have been told to just be more careful.. accidents happen and I don't think for one minute it was intentional but I was cross they were not stopped by the dinner ladies and asked if all the older children could be reminded of the dangers of swinging a child by their arm.. see, I'm not utterly unreasonable!

The trainer has suggested several hand and body signals, LW, all of which are new to me. Although I've had deaf dogs in the past I've never come across anyone who was experienced in training newly deaf or deaf solo dogs. Just about the first thing I said to her when we first arrived was that I totally accepted it was me that she was training, not Kelpie. That seemed to break the ice straightaway, and we just got straight into it.

Kelpie was totally entranced by her training methods and loved every second of it, so I'm going to do everything she suggested. He's pretty stiff today - I've never seen him so exhausted as he was last night even though we only did about five x five minutes sessions over about 50 minutes. The more we did the more excited he was, until finally he was bouncing off the caravan walls when we retreated in there after it started hailing!

We've got to practice Target Training and when we've got that, Sit and Back plus Recall sorted we're going to move on to Scent work. He'll really love that. He doesn't know what toys are for, but fortunately he'll do anything for food. I've got to make a Snuffle Mat for him as well, so that he has to work for all of his food in future.
    Better is good enough.
  • Hi all

Freezing here too. DS2 is home ill. That child is permanently ill. Have made an appointment at the opticians for him as he keeps complaining about headaches/sore and gritty eyes.

Tired tonight. Gym first thing, busy morning at job no. 1, supermarket shop, home to scrub out fridge and put shopping away, pizza dough in BM for tea, gathered up dog blankets and sofa throw and chucked them in the wash. Done 45 minutes on job no. 2 and really really cant be bothered to do any more.

Going to clean out LR fire and light it again then make pizza. DS2 bless him has just rung me and asked if I want anything from the shops.

Aww HB Kelpie really has fallen on his paws coming to you for his Forever Home. :o I'm so happy for him.

Gotta go and do dins in a mo - Summer In Winter Qu0rn. ;)
But before I sign off, just throwing some Pixie-fixing vibes in the general direction of the Piggers household; that sounds truly awful for the poor little lass.
