I agree about the cost of having nails done. I look at some of the families at school - nails done, hair extensions and everything about their appearance pristine - I often wonder how they afford it?

I've often wondered this as well. Plus spray tans, eyebrows, etc I have my hair cut and coloured every six weeks at a local salon where I get a discount and I think that's an extravagance. My only one, though. Maybe our priorities change as we get older.

    Hello - Nails !

Couple of years ago I had my nails done for an interview at the suggestion of a young lady who was helping me sort my interview clothing. Loved them so for a few months kept it up, really enjoyed the treat, then I began to think about the cost  and immediately stopped.

Eyebrows - recently swapped from B3n3fit pricey but really good shape, to the £5 threading bar, first time fine, last time rather wonky :o mine grow thick and fast... so need to find a solution, as I struggle to do myself... and I look like Dennis Healy otherwise :rotfl::rotfl:

Hair cut and colour at the non trendy local salon but even so Surrey prices with a discount it’s £140 ( I am aware there rent is 5 figures per year ) every 6 weeks.....

What we do to ourselves, it’s finding the balance isn’t it !
As a dear MSE friend says “keep plodding” or

Blimey, bubbles, I could get mine done 3 times for that
I never know how people can afford to get their nails done so often.
Like milan I had my nails done a while back.
I loved them but the state of my nails after

I used to have gel colour on my nails every 2 weeks at £25 a pop. Never had false nails. Got fed up of having to keep going to the salon to have them done, I like painting my own nails plus it's the cost, could buy several bottles of nail varnish for £25. Now I just have the gel colour when I go on holiday, purely because I don't want to be faffing around with chipped varnish. I colour my own hair then get it cut every 6 weeks costs £30 at a very good award winning salon at the end of my road. £140 for hair  I have my eyebrows tinted every 6 weeks or so purely because they're so fair they look non-existent. Maybe I would be different if I was younger, there seems to be a trend for very unnatural looking beauty these days, everything's fake.

I did wonder if I’ve just become mean and jealous :rotfl::rotfl: but after seeing others comments maybe I haven’t. Good luck to them if they can afford it without getting into debt and it makes them feel good about themselves.
I am quite partial to a massage and treatments that help relaxation but I haven’t had any since my dd had children - we used to meet for a special girls day occasionally.
I have my hair cut every 6 weeks or so - I like it short so I can blow it easily. A neighbour is a mobile hairdresser and she does it for me

I'm with you on the nails, I couldn't afford the upkeep every couple of weeks. I have my toes done in the summer about 3 times that's it then for the year.

Great to hear about the interview, I wish you the best of luck. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Hi SA, I also love the look of "done" nails but I'm too lazy (and stingy) for the upkeep. I just can't be bothered with all of the treatments etc that a lot of girls I know see as essential like fake tans, hair extensions, nails, semi-permanent eyebrows, laser hair removal/waxing, Botox & lip fillers to name a few.

My sister gets all of that stuff done (and more!!) and she doesn't need it! I think it's a bit of an addiction for some women and they get used to it so think they can't do without it. But yeah it can cost serious money.

I worry about my nieces seeing their mum doing all this and thinking that everyone does it so it must be necessary. Well I guess they know I don't. :rotfl: I like to look nice obviously but would rather pay for a hair cut and a facial or massage than a lot of those other things. Again too lazy really! Nothing wrong with it if that's what you want to do, just not for me.
