I had scarlet fever 3 times as a child despite supposedly being immune after the first time. Turned out my friend’s mum was a carrier hence why I kept getting it. I can still remember how poorly I felt.

The second time I got it I can remember the doctor coming to our house and all he was interested in was the fantastic view out of my bedroom window. We were very high up so I’ll forgive him 😆

Our dog is shut in his crate as the fireworks were really stressing him to the point he was trying to get to the window and it's not even midnight. He isn't happy but at least he's safe.

Happy New Year 🥳 

I didn’t see the new year in, I was tucked up in bed fast asleep. Even the fireworks didn’t wake me up and I gather from complaints on local FB groups they were loud. I’m so thankful my dog and cats aren’t bothered by them. 

No plans for today other than the usual dog walking, Spanish lessons, cleaning etc. It should be NSD 1 of January. 

When Mr SA was well we always used to go to Lanzarote on 1 January for 2 weeks as that time of year was very quiet in his building trade job. The weather was always warm enough to be on a sunbed in the day but you needed a jacket at night. Always a huge shock to the system to come back to the U.K. after that though so that’s why we moved it to April. 

This year’s house upgrade job will be to get new fencing down the drive. The present fence was badly damaged in parts by storms in the spring. Mr SA did a very bad patch up which makes it look worse. We have a long drive so it won’t be cheap. That’s a job for the summer anyway. 

I’m trying a new recipe for tonight’s dinner parsnip, sprout and chestnut hot pot, a Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall recipe from the BBC food website. It looks lovely and was recommended by a member on my WW app.  I had to buy the chestnuts and a bottle of cider for it but the rest of the ingredients are from stocks. 

Let’s hope 2023 is a better year for us all 🤞
