I used that weeks’s grocery money to buy food and drinks at the airport and on the plane. Also bought 2 bottles of gin on the plane so I suppose it’s still a decent underspend in the grand scheme of things.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4

The food that has to be bought in transit is disproportionately expensive, I find. I'm sure that's not an eye-opener for anyone who reads these boards regularly! I keep resolving to freeze some soups and pack them in the cool bag, and I'm quite good at taking a coffee flask on journeys. I haven't got much further than that, and there's always the emergency purchase of goodness-knows-what that was forgotten (elastoplast, socks etc.) This time around, with some motorway driving and a long journey split in two, we succumbed to takeaways on the motorway, which we counted as an investment to give us energy to drive safely.
Of course duty-free gin was an essential so you get a pat on the back for that.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

The carpet is fitted and looks brilliant, really pleased with it. The cats have noticed it but not clawed it yet 🤞 It’s quite deep pile, the other one was flat so maybe not as tempting to naughty claws.Made another new recipe tonight from the Deliciously Ella app, creamy mushroom orzo, absolutely gorgeous. Made two portions so will take the other to work for lunch tomorrow. It used up the leftover mushrooms, half a can of light coconut milk and the remains of a baby leaf salad bag. Also got to finally open a jar of miso paste I bought ages ago. Will definitely make this again.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5

Well it’s been all go on our road today. This afternoon we had a funeral procession, huge wicker coffin in an open glass hearse being walked down the road then just now we’ve had the fire brigade putting out a fire on the banks at the back of our houses 😱 Thankfully no real damage done but can you imagine if the trees and bushes had been tinder dry like they were during the heatwave! Doesn’t bear thinking about.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4

How lovely to have brand new carpet! Now you have to walk barefoot on it several times.
Dinner sounded yummy! I like mushrooms too. Do you stand them in daylight to increase the vitamin D? Apparently it takes a couple of hours.
The fire at the back must have been scary. I got worried when I realised how vulnerable our house would be when the gardens around are parched. Thank goodness there's been rain.

The fire sounded scary….as you say - doesn’t bare thinking about in the hot dry weather earlier this year 😳
I’d forgotten about the mushrooms taking vitamin D on from the sunshine. I vaguely remember seeing something on tv a while ago. Will give that a go 👍January spends - £587.584 -

I’ve been in the office all day today, just got back home and having a rest before doing FitSteps at 6. Should hit 25,000 steps today as I walked to/from work then popped to Homesense and found a lovely rug that matches the living room colour scheme reduced to £10 😃
I’m on a mission to finish off all the last bits now.Mr SA had a visit from the fire brigade as last night’s fire on the banks was deliberately set by kids 🤬 They checked our smoke alarms, condemned them and fitted us with 2 new ones free of charge.Tonight’s dinner is something quick and simple scampi, sweet potato wedges and salad.@Cherryfudge I didn’t know that about mushrooms but coincidentally they’d been out on the kitchen worktop for a couple of hours beforehand to remind me they needed using up.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5 -
That's awful about the kids setting the fire. I hope they've been traced and 'spoken to' by someone who knows how to have an effect. Good that you have new (feebie) smoke alarms, what did they check for? I know ours are working as the toaster keeps settling them off, but I admit I forget to check the batteries regularly. Same goes for CO2 detectors, but at least ours worked when we needed it to (which reminds me I need to check that battery too - I'll do it now before anything else).
Edit - checked and working.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
