I really sympathise with you people who are carers. Mr LH has mental health issues so although he doesnt need a carer as such he can be very hard to live with as his moods can pervade the whole house without him even saying anything. He is also incurably idle and rarely does anything but watch TV or use the computer. He doesnt play games on it so I am not sure what he does but it keeps him occupied. He does take me shopping once a week and walks the dogs after lunch, we share the evening walk as one goes for a walk the other usually just pops out for a sniff and toilet break.

I get a few days respite 2 or 3 times a year when he goes to music festivals with our bigger dog.

I have the utmost admiration for anyone who is a carer particularly when it comes to dementia or a brain injury.  As you say SA your husband can get out and about still but how does he buy beer if you restrict it and tell him it has to last or he will run out?  Does he have access to funds?  Presumably so if he goes out and buys more if he thinks he is getting low.  What you say makes sense if he is drinking when he thinks you are not around.  Are you concerned he is addicted?

He usually has a small amount of cash in his wallet. He generally doesn’t drink a lot it’s just the odd occasion when he stays up late. I’m not concerned in general, it’s not getting out of hand or anything. His fear of running out is the same reaction he used to have pre brain injury with running out of diesel. He would fill his van up the second that needle dropped below full. Thank goodness that’s one expense we no longer have.

  • I bet you are still tired because it has been a scary week. I was so tired when wrote I didn't fully take it in. Waiting all that time for the ambulance, having to be the one dealing with it all. knowing the answers.

Often the things we have to cope with can be overwhelming, so please give yourself permission to feel down occasionally.  Having so little control over our life is hard, so maybe try to get an 'away day' where you can chill out and relax.  (((hugs))) XX

Morning, happy Friday. This week has flown by.

WFH today, painter arriving at 8. Might go for a walk before I start work, it’s a lovely morning. Washing is already on the line.

It won’t be a NSD as the painter will need paying. I also must order Mr SA’s chair, forgot all about it. Not doing very well with the NSDs again this month with having to keep buying things for the living room refurb, can’t be helped though.

Finished my latest book Our Little Cruelties by Liz Nugent, it was brilliant, kept me guessing right to the last few pages. Have now started I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith, been on my bookshelves for a while.

I enjoyed 'I capture the castle', @Sun_Addict. I didn't discover it until about 20 years ago & wished I'd read it in my early teens as I'd have absolutely loved it then, with it being a rites of passage/growing-up novel.
