I used to make my son angel delight ice lollies as he didn't like milk & it was a way to get him to "drink" it.

Can anyone remember those Vesta meals in a box? I can remember a chow mein one and beef risotto or something similar. My mum used to get these as a treat, I’m afraid she wasn’t a great cook, she was M&S food hall’s best customer, even her mashed potato was from there 🤣 She was a fabulous mum though and that’s what really counts.
On the cooking front have made a new recipe from my WW Comfort Food book, tuna pasta bake. It was ok but a bit bland, feel like I’ve forgotten to add an ingredient. Made 2 portions so will either freeze one or have it on Thursday. No missing items or subs on this afternoon’s Mr M delivery 🥳 They even had Mr SA’s beer and it was on offer 2 big packs for £20.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)4 -
I remember those Vesta meals. My ex used to love them. I loved what they should have been. In the early 50s my father used to cook curry. I have no idea where he learnt. I think I was the only one of my friends who had even tasted it. Still a big fan & of chilli! Funnily enough I got appendicitis when I was about 10. Curry didn't affect it but lumpy mashed potato did. I'm still an oddball.

My older brother used to have the vesta chow mein after a late shift at work when I was still quite young. I remember pinching the crispy noodles that were with it 😂😂 I didn’t like the chow mein but loved the noodles. My dad used to moan at the smell of ‘that foreign muck’ He wasn’t the slightest bit prejudice to the people….but the food 😳😳January spends - £587.587

Late 70's, long dresses, fondue everywhere and no party complete without a foil hedgehog with cheese and pineapple on sticks and a tray of vol au vents with 'mystery' fillings, something mushroomy out of a tin I think. Weekday meals always had a plate of bread and butter alongside (or was that only a Northern thing?)
I can remember my parents getting their first (gigantic) freezer. Filled one half with a butchered lamb and the rest with tubs of ice cream and crinkle cut chips or so I remember - keeping ice cream at home was a bit special.7 -
I loved those Vesta meals as teenager. We didnt get them very often but a treat when we did. Never liked Arctic roll or vienettas but strawberry angel delight was wonderful. Never liked the chocolate or butterscotch though. To me chocolate should only be eaten as chocolate and only with more chocolate. Dont like anything chocolate flavour even hot chocolate is a no no. Yeah I know I'm weird.

Banana angel delight for me and just a small dollop of dream topping please.Remember the Birds trifle mix? You can still buy it! We did a 1970's food night and made the trifle .... very sweet but nostalgic fun.
loved the vesta chow mein - those crispy noodles were very yummy. As a child I was the only one who ate the "foreign food" - I could have it instead of my mum's vile scotch broth. The rest of her cooking was yummy but the scotch broth was truly horrid.
I was also partial to toast toppers - that tiny tin of .... errr gloop. I could have that for Sunday tea instead of tinned pilchards - I'd still chose the toast topper 😋. Never a fan of sandwich spread though.6 -
