nobody is disputing the lack of available beds.

No there are not.
Having a daughter experience a crisis, having been on a waiting list for treatment for a year. Leaving the hospital bed (where she was receiving treatment for an overdose).
Telephoning the crisis team and being told that the fact she has attempted to take her own life made no difference and she would have to continue her wait in the queue for help, resulted in one personal loan and a self referal to a private clinic.
The NHS are amazing if you have a tangible illness they can patch up, but for mental health where the demand is excessive, they are most definitely not performing adequately. The only place where success comes before work is the dictionary…

The NHS is a 'black hole' for money. It doesn't matter how much you give it, it will always be needing/wanting more.0

To come back to my original question which was about those who are being sectioned. And, again, I fully agree about the problems in NHS and with mental health support etc.
BorisThomson said that if there are no beds available you will not be sectioned (suggests that even if you should be you will not be). I have not heard of this before and would be, genuinely, interested in evidence/examples of this.
There have been a number of posts highlighting the deficiencies in the system but nothing to support this assertion.0 -

I would, respectfully, disagree.
While I know the topic has wandered a bit I think any discussion about the state of mental health services in this country is not wasted.
In addition, I do hope the OP can return and acknowledge the brave and very insightful post by FosterDog.
ETA.
Having read the latest post from the OP I have changed my mind. It should be closed.
Once again, huge kudos to FosterDog for their brave post0 -
I have only felt up to coming on here to say I tried the cowards way out of the situation because after crying and begging and pleading with the local mental health unit to take my daughter in they refused so I took an overdose but failed and after being taken to hospital and after speaking to a psychiatrist was discharged at twenty to six this morning and here I am feeling ill and no doubt will get dogs abuse for doing what I did.0

Do you expect people to praise you?
You put more strain on overstretched MH services. If you had succeeded (which thank God you didn't) how would your daughter have coped??If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
