Real-time social interaction study (£1.5 + 30% chance to get a bonus of £1)
By esade.edu£1.50 • £6.00/hr15 mins1 placeIn this 15-mins study, the main task is an online negotiation with another person from Prolific. Specifically, you will be paired with another person from Prolific, and negotiate with that person using an online chatroom that we provide.
- If we are able to pair you, and you complete the negotiation and answer follow-up questions, you will receive £1.5.
- In addition, you will receive an extra £1 bonus if your negotiation outcome is better than 70% of the participants who have the same material as you in this study.
I thought I was lucky, there was 1 spot available and I got it. Then I found myself in a waiting room, waiting for anothere participant, with the researcher's notes saying they would aim to match me with another participant and to wait a few minutes, and if they couldn't match me, I'd be paid 50p. Well I waiting for about 5-7 minutes, with nobody being matched to me, and given I was the last slot it didn't look like anybody was likely to be, so I eventually bombed out and returned the survey. I contacted the researcher with no response as yet. If nothing by tomorrow I will be putting in a complaint.
I've just been paid the 50p

Road Safety
By cardiff.ac.uk£3.75 • £6.94/hr32 mins0 placesIn this experiment you will be presented with nine scenarios involving various traffic situations and responding to questions relating to your opinions and attitudes.
Curious to know if anyone else did this one. It was a nice enough study with diagrams of road safety incidents and you had to assess blame etc. The odd thing was that in the middle of the information sheet it said "as this is a pilot study you will not be compensated" and then something about but you will be contributing to science!
I don't see how they can get out of paying except by rejecting the submission., which isn't going to wash. I'm assuming it may have been accidentally left in after they tested it on students?0 -

Done the first one, which did indeed take the full 90 minutes.
The instructions say that
"As this study includes a 24 hour delay, Prolific will likely tell you that you have "timed out" of this experiment. However, as long as you complete the second session within 24-96 hours after the end of the first session, you can safely ignore this message. Completing both parts of the experiment within the correct time frame will ensure you getting paid."
Does that mean I just let it time out instead of hitting the complete button after the first session?
Messaged the researcher but still waiting for a reply.
Email arrived today with part 2 - no prolific link or message.
So I finished it (another hour and a half which left me losing the will to live.) And the status under submissions has changed from timed out to under review with a completion code . So it's looking hopeful but if I'd not given them an email address I suspect I would have lost out because they say they only pay for both parts being completed. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
In such circumstances, you have your Prolific e-mail address which you can give them - and presumably it is possible, in cases of dispute, for Prolific to look at any messages received to that address, as evidence.

I’ve never worked out how/where to access any emails to the prolific email address. Wouldn’t know where an email sent to me would go.If anyone does know how it works I’d appreciate it if they let me know. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I think they arrive in your Messages box.

just emailed myself and will let you know if it arrives. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Update. The message arrived but it went straight into the archived folder so there’s no message alert on prolific itself.
I did get the email telling me I’ve got a message with a link to it though. But you wouldn’t spot it if you were just looking on prolific for new messages. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
