I started a survey earlier which I had to return because the consent form said they only wanted US participants. So I messaged the researcher anyway just to let them know that they might want to re-look at the screening and they very kindly said they will still pay me the £3.
It wasn’t what I was expecting, I was just letting them know, but I am appreciative.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

    Anyone encountered this before?

Just had a study rejected for taking a lot longer than their expected 10 minutes even though 35 minutes was allowed. This was because I didn't start straight away having noted I had 35 minutes. I have done this many times before without a problem. I thought the longer allowed times were just that, to give you chance to get a quiet room or to be uninterrupted.
  • I did one this morning, warby68, and received a completion code at the end.  When I returned to Prolific I saw that I had been timed out.  I took longer than the allocated time but hoped, because i received a completion Code, that my submission would be accepted.

I contacted the Researcher but received no reply.  I did take longer than the allocated time.

Thanks Crimson - I wasn't timed out though. I actually thought they could tell how long you worked on something as separate data from reservation to completion.

I'm surprised that you had your submission rejected and were not, instead, timed out. Had you received and entered a completion code?

Because I was timed out it was not possible for me to enter my completion code.

No, the estimated completion time was 10 minutes but the maximum time allowed was 35. They rejected me on the former assuming I was working on it for all of the time before submission at about 30 minutes. It was one of those automatic completions where you don't need to manually put the code in.

Yes, I have certainly done that a few times and never had issues

Thanks both, the researcher has now approved my study. I got the impression that it was a first study.

I do this a lot as sometimes I need to finish something off fiirst or move for peace and quiet so am happy its resolved.

You have been invited to participate because you completed the previous questionnaire part. This part involves a learning and decision-making task, some logical puzzles and basic demographics. Note that participation in this part is completely voluntary and you can choose to participate (or not).

In the learning and decision-making task there will be many trials. The task is fast-paced and demands full concentration.

On reading the pdf of instructions, it says they only want people from 18-40 (sounds like an old holiday company), which screens me out. Would have thought they'd self screen on this one so I wouldn't be offered it. Have contacted the researcher but no response yet. The survey has been in my studies list since Friday but only had time to do it now. Guess the researcher has something better to do on a Sunday evening.

    Goal Recognition and Explanations

I got about 10 minutes in, still working through the instruction videos, answering comprehension questions on each page, and I'm hit with a comprehension question for which all four answers - including the one I believe to be correct - are greeted with a "Wrong answer" response. I can't continue until I select the correct answer, and since none of them is recognised as correct, I'm stuck. I messaged the researcher asking for guidance and pointing out that I've already spent 10 minutes and hope that I can be compensated for that at least. It's extremely annoying when I waste my time on a study because the researcher couldn't be bothered to check that it worked properly before submitting it. Furthermore, currently I'm waiting for it to time out in the hope that the researcher will get back to me and provide a solution before it does, and several other studies have popped up on the Assistant addon in the meantime, which I've not been able to do because I'm stuck on this one.
