Deleted_User said:I started this one in Chrome as instructed.About 20 minutes into the study there was a ? technical fault loading the next part. The little 'circle' kept whizzing round and the next part did not load.Unfortunately I eventually returned the study as it was impossible to proceed to the next part. Trying to refresh the page did not help. It's a pity because I really was eager to continue.I'm glad you had no problems with it, yupiteru.
CrimsonThat's a pity, it is usually me that gets these kind of problems. At the 20 minutes point you were most likely not far from the end, as I had the stopwatch running as usual and it only went a little over the 20 minute mark if I remember correctly and that is taking into account switching browsers from Firefox to Chrome and me being slow as molasses rolling down a hill.1 -
A study about people
By ntu.edu.sg0 placesThis study takes 8 minutes. It consists of 3 surveys. The second survey requires participants to install a software and play a game.£1.00 • £4.45/hr

Managed to get a place but only then did I realise the second part required me to install software.
I know from past experience that most software like this is designed for Windows machines and on my 'home' machines I run Linux so I did not want to waste my time just in case.
I counted this morning that I have returned 28 studies so far this month for various reasons, sigh, think of all that money................

Thanks yupiteru. I'm really quite slow, generally, on Prolific and nearly always go at least a few minutes 'over' on shorter studies and, on longer studies, sometimes quite a bit more.I really wanted to finish that study but even refreshing my Chrome browser page did not help. I have not heard anything from the Researcher although I did Return the study. On the rare occasion that I contact a Researcher I find that they only very seldom reply.Oddly enough I did the Study about People and could hardly believe that it was straightforward with no problems. Like you, yupiteru,I didn't realize that software download was involved but, having started I decided to continue.I was surprised and pleased to receive the completion code.Crimson

The effect of emotion-based diversification and visualization on user experience in recommendation systems
By Lydia Guo68 placesDr. Mokryn and Dr. Knijnenburg invite you to participate in a research study. Dr. Mokryn is a professor at Haifa University, and Dr. Knijnenburg is a professor at Clemson University. This study aims to test a new recommender system for movies. Your participation in this study will be valued.

Something a little different that when first began looked like it was going to take a lot longer than the projected completion time, but it did not take that long in the end, taking into account that I had to switch browsers from Firefox to Chrome.

As I said above, I waited over ten minutes and it never loaded. I gave up.

When it happened again (similar to MollyR but not as long as 10 minutes the first time) towards the end of the study, not resolved, I Returned the study. I hope you have better success than I had olliebean.Crimson0 -
About 10 minutes now, and I've messaged the researcher asking if there's a problem with the study, and whether I will be compensated for the time already spent on it. I doubt I'll hear back in time and will have to return it before it expires, but perhaps it's worth a shot.

Please let us know how you get on, olliebean. I contacted the Researcher but, so far, I have not received a reply.I think the Researcher must know that there is a technical type of problem.Crimson0

The description said to allow 25 minutes "just in case" (although this would have made it underpaying), so 25 minutes after starting I returned the study and messaged the researcher expressing a hope that my feedback about their movie recommender not loading would be useful enough for them to send me some payment, especially given the time I spent waiting for it. (I didn't mention that I was doing other stuff while waiting.) I'll report back if I get any response from them.

I'll do the same and report back here if I get any response from the Researcher.Crimson0
