    Thanks for your replies.
I suppose at least if they long it out to let in newbies like me, they are trying to protect pre-existing members.. that sounds like when that tiktocker went viral, the floodgates opened.

In this study, you will be immersed in a virtual urban environment and complete a survey.

    ..............................................................................................................................
Did anyone else get stuck trying to download this? It said it would take 10 mins to download but It's been around 20 minutes for me now and it seems to have stuck half way through.

I had to return it as WebGL is not working on my laptop running Linux Mint 18.3 XFCE (tried Firefox and Chrome).

I have had this issue in the past and will have to get round to fixing it when I get time, but I do not need WebGL often enough to make it a priority.

Edit - just ran some tests and WebGL is working fine so not sure what the problem is.

Dr. Mokryn and Dr. Knijnenburg invite you to participate in a research study. Dr. Mokryn is a professor at Haifa University, and Dr. Knijnenburg is a professor at Clemson University. This study aims to test a new recommender system for movies. Your participation in this study will be valued.

Something a little different that when first began looked like it was going to take a lot longer than the projected completion time, but it did not take that long in the end, taking into account that I had to switch browsers from Firefox to Chrome.

I started this one in Chrome as instructed.

About 20 minutes into the study there was a ? technical fault loading the next part. The little 'circle' kept whizzing round and the next part did not load.

Unfortunately I eventually returned the study as it was impossible to proceed to the next part. Trying to refresh the page did not help.  It's a pity because I really was eager to continue.

I'm glad you had no problems with it, yupiteru.

As you were 20 minutes into the study you deserve to be compensated for your time, rather than just returning it.

I would have submitted with no code and explained the technical issues.
  • I did not think of doing that, fabsaver.  It will be too late to change it this time but, I'll keep in mind what you've suggested if it happens in future.  Thank you for replying.

You could still message the researcher and explain. Worth a try.

I had the same thing happen, but after only ten minutes or so - it was at the very start of section 4.  I waited for more than ten minutes, and then messaged the researcher, with no response.  Finally I cancelled the study.  I was using Chrome, with Javascript and everything enabled, so the problem was certainly not at my end.

O.K, fabsaver. I'll be brave (and polite!) and send a message.  Regardless of the outcome, if I  receive any reply from the Researcher, I'll post. back here to let you know.

    Thank you.

I’ve been on the waitlist to join for 6 months now.l is it usually this long a wait?

Others have reported waiting this long also on other Prolific related forums. Prolific seem to be assessing and screening the demographics of potential participants.

They got badly bitten last year when a 'side hustles' channel on Tiktok run by a teenager called Sarah Frank released a video promoting Prolific.

The video went viral and got 4.1 million views in the month after it was posted, this inspired a massive number of young women of a certain demographic to join up with Prolific.

This major demographic shift badly effective the pool balance according to Prolific and researchers noticed their studies were flooded with responses from young women around Frank’s age rather from a more representative samples of the population.

Since that incident Prolific appear to be keeping a tight control over the participant pool numbers and are screening applicants demographics to maintain a balance.

Sadly this has had a negative effect for some people and I hope you secure a place soon.

Oh wow - I feel lucky as Ive been a member of it since 2016. I havent seen a noticeable downturn of surveys for myself, though I am hardly in the demographic in question here as a 38 year old melachony git.

This thread seems to be a lot busier then when we were using it a few years ago too.
