  • Just £3 spent from the grocery budget today, on one loaf of delicious freshly-baked bread, which should have been my last main shop of the month. But I got called down to my mother yesterday as she was on her way to A&E again, so spent the night down there with her once she was discharged, hence I didn't get to our market this morning. And I'm busy tomorrow, so it all rides on Sunday lunchtime, really. Provided I'm not propping up the hospital walls again... if I have to buy it all in supermarkets, I might still managed to over-spend!

I haven't checked in for a while, so I will read over this thread this weekend, It has been a pretty full on month for us.

Our car finally gave up on life this week, after a £550 bill that stung us on the 2nd - this week the the ABS pump gave up opening the door to to a plethora of issues.. we figured it was cheaper just to retire the old dear - so were in the process of shipping her off, and looking to get something new, right at a time where money couldn't be tighter!

So.. back to shopping.. In Jan i set an upper limit of £100 p/w for food shopping - then in Feb reduced that to £90. - I have consistently been at around £80 a week give or take bulk buying washing detergents and toilet rolls, and have now managed to work up a fairly decent sized pantry stock of baking bits - so I no longer buy anything that resembles treats (apart from custard creams.) so for the next 5 weeks, I am going to aim for £80 a week and see how I get on.

We have also discovered a love for Orange Jelly - which the children love to make and eat, especially with fruity bits.

I actually went into Poudnstrtcer today and walked out after buying nothing, it was full of really dreadful tacky stuff and most of the things in the food aisles are cheaper in the supermarket.

I hope you have all reached your feb goals, if not.. next month! we can do it x
    Wishing you all good luck!

  • Thank you euronorris and supersaver1000. Second visit to vet today. Her temperature has come down a little and second antibiotics jab plus course of tablets should hopefully do the trick. Fingers crossed! (Not looking forward to trying to get tablets into her twice daily if I’m honest :) )

thriftwizard, hope your mum is recovering. Such a worry for you.

Still not looked at my figures. And a visit to Morrie’s after vets (buying salmon to tempt the cat :D) will have bumped me up further. Hopefully I’ll get chance to add up tomorrow.

Another beautiful day here today. Hope everyone is well.

Hi all, it's the end of the month for me on Sunday but technically I don't need anything else so I'm declaring well over at £245.35 out of £200.

I'm not letting it get me down - I went over because I did not plan well at all and I recognise that. No point beating myself up, will just try to address that next month! See you all in March!

  • Spent £20.37 in L1dl - received a surprise freebie box of choccies at the checkout for spending over £20 :)

That's it now for this month's GC as have plenty of food in fridge, freezer and cupboards along with good quantity of UHT milk so I'm declaring a total spend of £180.84 for February.

It's 84p over budget, but last month's total was well under so am still on track for the year.

Glad she's on the mend. I would really love another rescue cat, but I can't at the mo. The tablets are quite easy to give - there is a technique. Hold her head right back and open her mouth, put the tablet in, as far back as you can. Hold her mouth closed and hold her head back as far as it naturally goes, until she swallows. It causes a natural swallow. Let me know if you manage to do it.

  • I get paid on monday so I'm declaring a Feb total of 393.21 of 390 budget. I think everything got recorded so for a first full month I don't think I've done bad. Did a massive shop last night but I'm including that in my march as it is for next week but childcare wise was just easier to do yesterday.
