  • Was going to claim a NSD as I bought lunch on a day out of the office but realised I went over the expense limit by 50p. Then bought a roll of food waste bags from poundland. So total expenditure today £1.50.

  • I have to share my joy at finding a block of halloumi in the door of my fridge that I'd forgotten about!

Feels like a free meal- just roasted the end of a butternut squash, a large sweet potato, and a couple peppers, 2 potatoes, and a couple of sad onions, adding the thinly sliced halloumi and a splash of balsamic vinegar for the last 20 minutes- all served with the last of the sprouts dying at the bottom of my fridge.

I am already over target this month- but trying to minimise the damage. This block of halloumi has made my day!

I love surprise halloumi! Talk about a treat. :)
  • Did have some foodie purchases yesterday, will sort out receipts and add on to total later today :o

Spends of £39.84 between Morries and Aldi to report, wanted more Ariel as offer ends tomorrow and a bottle of brandy, hic, also picked up 6 bags of 50p onions and 2 stale loaves as D.D. has requested sage and onion stuffing, I make a huge batch and freeze it in portions, needed some other veg and butter too, hence Aldi, hopeful of minor spends between now and end of month.
Do I need it or just want it.
  • I can't believe I only spent just over £8 last week and that included some wash pods. However have spent more than that already this week but will save the update until after the weekend. There is always a week when you have to build up your stocks again.
Grocery challenge 2025: £650/1500 annual budget
  • A spend of £4.94 today on chestnut mushrooms, sweet pointed peppers, onions, bananas and dark chocolate. The first two are on super six and will always get used in our house, the next two are staples and the chocolate is to make a banana, chocolate and walnut cake my mum gave me the recipe for.

I shouldn't need anything else until the end of the week now.

    37.76/100
  • A spend of just over £7 today. Called into Alldi on way home and bought some pies and cauliflower cheese bake - got a bag of spuds at home so made mash and had with some peas, sweetcorn and gravy. Bought some mixed herbs and a bottle of beer - needed after a lot of travelling for work today

i have those gyros in my freezer but haven't tried them yet.
you can tell they're in there, every time I open the freezer door the stink of garlic zooms out to greet me :D
I hope to be lucky enough to get some next time round. You'll have to report back if it is as nice as it smells :p

Spends of £5.20 in work minus staff discount - 3 x YS pain au chocolat packs (£1.50), YS loaf (73), YS burger buns (55p), and 6 bags of cheetos (as hardly any decent crisps in for packed lunches) and New Walkers ridged style crisps Chilli and LIme flavour for Sat night (£1). Their 'fancy' crisps are hardly ever vegan; but these were, so caved in.

Today after college, nipped in Morrisons for fruit and veg ( lettuce, celery and grapes) and handwash and cold stuff from B and M ( i am ill again too); but i don't include medicine in budget.

    So, £5.09 today ... and £10.29 total.

Booked Ocado for tomorrow, as cannot hold off any longer for the other Astonish bits i need.
GC Jan £101.91/£150 Feb £70.96/150 Mar £100.43/150 Apr £108.45 app/150 May £149.70/150 Jun £155.15/150 July £89.90/£150 (includes food, toiletries and cleaning from 13th to 12th of each month. One person vegan household with occasional visitors)

  • Evening folks. Today was a NSD but I actually bought some stuff yesterday evening on the way home from work. You know how they say never go shopping when you’re hungry? Well, don’t read articles about pizza at 5:30pm when you’re hungry because that’ll make you crave pizza like a rabid teenager.

I bought shredded mozzarella, an expensive crust for OH, and some thin salami for me. I couldn’t remember if I had my favourite salami still at home still to use as a pizza topping so I hungrily bought a new pack as back up. That was a €3.90 mistake. Overall the spend came to €8.27.

    Totals So Far:
    €188.87 / €450
    10 / 10 NSDs

I’m glad I reached 10 NSDs! :j I can’t wait to rack up some more later this week. Tomorrow I'll buy recycling bags, teenager snacks, and a tube of toothpaste. To prevent myself from going over, I'll hold off buying the shower gel for €14. I have a bar of soap I can use until March then buy the shower gel in the new month.

I’ve made my stock up/buying lists for March. They cover both domestic shops and our UK trip in the third week of March. It’ll be a month to stock up on detergent, toothpaste, Night Nurse, deodorant, haggis, etc. You know, the important things. :)

Is the March thread up yet?
  • Good morning everyone
have been having a bit of bother logging on but hopefully all sorted now.
Have about £15 left in GC purse. However I have been using money for social eating as well as house food. I think next month I will try to monitor what I am spending in coffee shops, lunches etc.
I still feel it is worthwhile as it is making me more aware of what I am spending and where it is going.
This is the last week of my GC challenge as I start on 1st of the month. Hopefully I will make it to end of month without overspending.
    Roll on March.
