I have just updated my totals and it is nearing the £40 budget now, with 10 days of the month left. I bought some groceries for my mum yesterday, and spent nearly £6 on Lidl's biscuits this morning :o

  • Well, I got a lesson in checking your receipt today as I bought a mango as part of my shopping because they were on offer at 59p and the cashier has put it through as a giant mango at £1.30. I've only noticed now that I've got home and Tesco is a mile away so I don't feel like walking back there to get it changed. I also got some other fruit, yoghurt and cereal and spent £10.90 in total. I finally feel like I'm winning at this this month as we're over half way and I'm only a third of the way through the money.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts about a shopping trolley. :A I've decided to get one and am going to use some of those loyalty points to pay for it :), so it's a win-win. Heron Foods here I come! (When the freezer has emptied a bit, of course. ;) )
Managed to get some bargain reduced ys bits. got a couple of packs of topside of beef, some roast turkey, roast turkey with stuffing, a pack of ham, some bits of ham, mini beef pasties, 5 chipolata's, some haslet slices, a pack of savoury eggs and some kids apple and chicken bites. Should have cost £32.50 if bought full price ( I wouldn't have bought it at that price), cost to me this afternoon £2.41.
I'm over the moon, as I've worked out that it will do 3 main meals for the 5 of us, dinner for the 3 kids twice, sandwiches for lunch 3 times for the 5 of us and once for the 3 kids, snacks for the kids twice and once for hubby.
I've also found out the kids like haslet, it cost 6p for around 9 slices, so didn't really matter if they didn't like it. Will definitely keep my eye on the reduced priced items again.

Well done, that's a fantastic result MrsC!

  • We’re at £278.47 with 9 days to go. I’ll hold off the happy dance for now because it’s half term here and anything could happen! Instead I’ll just say I’m cautiously optimistic. Meals are planned till the end of this week so hopefully shouldn’t go too far off track.

Mrs Cheshire those are some serious bargains!

  • I have to share my joy at finding a block of halloumi in the door of my fridge that I'd forgotten about!

Feels like a free meal- just roasted the end of a butternut squash, a large sweet potato, and a couple peppers, 2 potatoes, and a couple of sad onions, adding the thinly sliced halloumi and a splash of balsamic vinegar for the last 20 minutes- all served with the last of the sprouts dying at the bottom of my fridge.

I am already over target this month- but trying to minimise the damage. This block of halloumi has made my day!
  • Stopped by Ald! on my way home earlier as we'd run out of nappies, I'm hoping this will be the last pack, as my son is 27 months. I'm thinking about using cloth nappies once this pack has run out, just for a few months so he gets more used to the dampness that comes with a wee. He's already quite good at recognising the more smelly ones. Then I'll start toilet training in June I think once I'm less distracted by studying and the warmer days are here!
Also picked up coffee and sugar as DH was running low, even though I asked on Thursday was he short of anything, also got some mushrooms for tea and some chocolate for the kids as a treat. Spent £10.20 I think, need to find the receipt or wait for the bank to update.

16th - Iceland - 4 chinese frozen meals (3 on offer @ £1, 4th always £1 - our valetines night coincided with chinese new year, so we decided to have something different to normal), mint chocolate dessert (on clearance offer @ £2.50), 8 individual gluten free christmas puddings (on clearance @ 10p each). Total spend £7.30 (OH added another £1.40 to the bill, so this was my next £8 Bonus Card offer spend)

    16th - Her0n - 9 packs of A. Harriott wild mushroom cous cous (3 for £1), 4 packs peanuts (2 for £1.50). Total spend £6

That takes my total spend for the month to date to £58.32. Leaves me with £21.68 for the next 9 days.

Could be tight, especially as I still need to do another £8 spend @ Icel@nd for my bonus offer if I want the free £5 next month. Should be do-able though (I think!).
